Project Spotlight
PSM/RMP Services
Hygieneering was recently awarded a project to assist a client in accessing regulatory driven boundaries of several Process Safety Management (PSM) / Risk Management Plan (RMP) covered processes and to determine if there is any other critical equipment that needs to be incorporated in the PSM/RMP boundary. This project also includes:
  • Assessing which pressure vessels, tanks, piping, valves, emergency shutdowns, instrumentation, controls, etc. should have inspections and tests defined in the site maintenance management system.
  • Comparing the equipment list to what is presently within the site’s maintenance management system to identify gaps accordingly.
  • Review/update existing preventative maintenance schedules and creating new ones for covered process equipment that is consistent with Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) for preventative maintenance, as regulatory required.
Gas Leak Investigation
Hygieneering responded to a call from a client with a concern about a gas leak at their facility. The fire department had previously cleared the scene of any immediate threat; however, did detect a minor leak. The client requested assistance with determining the source.

Hygieneering, with the support of gas monitoring equipment from a local fire department, responded to the scene with 2 field technicians to start the investigation.
A walkthrough of the facility was conducted, collecting measurements throughout. Hygieneering walked the natural gas lines throughout the building and rooftop in search for potential leaks. The area where the highest concentrations were detected previously by the fire department was re-visited and further investigated. As elevated concentrations in this area remained, the source could not be immediately determined. After further investigation, Hygieneering determined that the source of the natural gas leak was faulty regulator from a hot water heater, that was located in a chemical storage room adjacent to the originally identified area of concern. Once determined, the facility engineering crew turned off the gas to the location and repairs are underway.

Compliance Reminders
This is a friendly reminder that:

US DOT requires complete training for hazmat employees once every three years (49 CFR 172.704).

US EPA requires annual training for hazardous waste personnel (40 CFR 262.17).
US OSHA requires annual training for general site workers engaged in hazardous waste operations (29 CFR 1910.(e)(9) as well as emergency response employees (29 CFR 1910.120(q)(8).

OSHA states that each powered industrial vehicle operator must initially be trained and evaluated and operator’s performance must be evaluated at least once every 3 years. Hygieneering provides initial and refresher training for operators of powered industrial vehicles.

To schedule your required training by Hygieneering's certified staff, contact Kevin Konkey.
