ATRI Research Documents Critical Role of Association Membership in Motor Carrier Safety

ATRI has released foundational new research that statistically corroborates that motor carriers who are active in state and national membership associations are safer than both former association members and carriers who have never been association members.

It has always been anecdotally assumed that association membership supports safety through a variety of association services and resources, but the necessary industry safety data and methodology had never before been assessed. This new empirical research processed public safety data from the Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) through a series of statistical tools to confirm the relationship between association membership and safety performance. Trucking Industry Asked to Rank Top

Concerns for 2023

ATRI has launched the 2023 Top Industry Issues Survey. The annual survey asks trucking industry stakeholders to rank the top issues of concern for the industry along with potential strategies for addressing each issue.

Now in its 19th year, ATRI’s annual analysis not only ranks the issues overall but also provides insights into how critical topics are ranked differently by motor carriers and professional drivers. The report also allows stakeholders to monitor issues over time to better understand which issues are rising, or falling, in criticality.

The results of the 2023 survey will be released October 14, 2023 as part of the American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition to be held in Austin, Texas.

The survey will remain open through September 29, 2023.

ATRI RAC Application Form Coming Soon!

Over the years, interest in serving on ATRI’s Research Advisory Committee (RAC) has increased as industry stakeholders from across the nation want to play an important role in identifying the industry’s top research priorities. To facilitate a more efficient nomination process, ATRI is developing an online application form for potential members to indicate their interest in serving. All applications will still undergo a rigorous vetting process that includes review by the ATRI Board of Directors prior to being appointed. However, the online application form will allow interested individuals to provide more detailed information on their interest and expertise.

ATRI's RAC represents a diverse cross-section of trucking industry stakeholders who are charged with annually identifying the trucking industry's top research needs. RAC members play a vital role in evaluating research proposals and ultimately selecting the top studies that ATRI will undertake each year. Service on the RAC is a two-year commitment and members are expected to participate in one in-person meeting each March, one research update webinar each October, and ad hoc project-related calls throughout the year.
