The second annual Bay Area TB Science Symposium (BATS), hosted by UC TRAC and chaired by Drs. Babak Javid (UCSF) and Sarah Stanley (UC Berkeley), invites you to join us for a regional scientific symposium bringing together experts and early career investigators to focus on emerging research and network with colleagues in the TB field in the Bay Area. Planning Committee members include Drs. Bennett Penn (UC Davis), Purvesh Khatri (Stanford), Devan Jaganath (UCSF), with Drs. Javid and Stanley and Barbara Alonso (UCSF Center for Tuberculosis).

BATS Keynote Speaker,

Dr. Eric Rubin, is the Editor-in-Chief for the New England Journal of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Immunology & Infectious Diseases at Harvard Chan School of Public Health.


In addition to Dr. Rubin's keynote address, he will join TB RAMP Scholars on Sept 8 in a fireside chat to launch the 2023-24 cohort!

The Center for Tuberculosis is pleased to announce the Fall 2023 pilot awards, co-funded by UC TRAC and TB RAMP. The Resource Allocation Program (RAP) pilot awards in TB research are mentoring and training grants eligible to UCSF and UC Berkeley Early Stage Investigators in TB research. Awarded applicants are auto-enrolled in TB RAMP.

Matt Murrill, MD, PhD

Appointed Assistant Professor

Dr. Matt Murrill, was recently appointed Assistant Professor of UCSF's Division of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Murill is mentored by and works closely with Drs. Priya Shete and Patrick Phillips, and works within the TB Epidemiologic Studies Consortium (TBSEC). We are pleased that Dr. Murrill is also joining TB RAMP this Fall.

Midori Kato-Maeda, PhD

New Funding: $2.1M over 2 years

Dr. Midori Kato-Maeda and team awarded a grant of $3.3M over 5 years from the National Insititute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for a project entitled, “Innovating anti-tuberculosis drug susceptibility testing with a novel and rapid non-culture based phenotypic test using MPT64 biomarker.” 

Fatoumatta Darbo, PhD

Deep Support Collaboration Award

Dr. Darbo received a Deep Support Collaboration Award in Data Analysis, Integration, and Tool Development, by the Center for AIDS Research. As part of the award, she will be working closely with the ImmunoX data co-lab in collaboration with Al Abdellatif and Gabriela (Gabi) Fragiadakis to establish bioinformatic pipelines to process longitudinal bulk whole blood RNA-sequencing data.

Hélène Aschmann, PhD

Postdoc Slam Finalist

Dr. Aschmann is a finalist in the 2023 Postdoc Slam. Postdoc Slam challenges postdocs in a range of disciplines to present a compelling presentation of their research in three minutes or less, using language that not only their peers but also non-specialists will understand.


Postdoc Slam is on Sept 19 at 4pm PDT.

SMART4TB

Project Coordinator

The UCSF Center for Tuberculosis SMART4TB Project Coordinator will oversee project coordination activities associated with a multi-national TB clinical trial and research consortium. The Project Coordinator will support SMART4TB diagnostic and/or therapeutic trials led by UCSF principal investigators pertaining to procurement, logistics and supply management, facilitate and track reporting requirements, liaise with finance team on budget monitoring, and other project management needs for study coordination. Finance Analyst

The UCSF Center for Tuberculosis Finance Analyst will facilitate the central financial operations of budget and reporting for UCSF under the SMART4TB consortium. In addition, the Finance Analyst will oversee budget and contract monitoring for all active and closed foreign sites under the SMART4TB projects, and act as the in-house analyst for international collaborators and provide regular trainings to staff and research administrators at those sites.
