Education News
We are gearing up for all of the upcoming fall activities. Starting with TRUNK or Treat the Sunday before Halloween. Please sign up to decorate a trunk and we are asking all to bring a side dish to share.
We are currently planning an Advent dinner but I need a head count for how many will attend. The English barn has offered their space free of charge. We will need to pay for the cleanup crew. Based on how many people are interested in coming we will have the funds to use their space.
Contact Courtney Flanery at 913•314•8371 if you think you are interested in attending.

Pastor Andy Writes...
October and November are the last Sundays of Pentecost, which turn into the Last Sundays of the church year. With all the natural disasters and upheaval in our world, people are concerned about the end times. God speaks very clearly in His Word about the end times. He talks about natural disasters as the beginning of these times. He warns of a time when Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead. He will destroy the heavens and earth and create a new heaven and new earth.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” --Matthew 24:35
The church every year looks at the promises of God. He will destroy the wicked and
deliver those who remain faithful.
I say all this because there is much handwringing, weeping and gnashing of teeth as we are bombarded by news of the latest disaster or political debacle. Followers of Christ have faced persecution since the first century for proclaiming their faith. History records dark and difficult times of disaster and persecution. Many of Jesus contemporaries thought that the world would end with the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. The spread of the Ottoman Turks was thought to be a clear sign of the end of time. The protestant reformer identified the Pope as the antichrist and an agent to usher in the end of times. In our era, it is popular to identify sitting political leaders as antichrists and agents used by the evil one to usher in the destruction of the world.
We live in a non-Christian nation. We are bombarded by messages that our moral values are restrictive and are the root of intolerance. It is offensive to point out the reality of sin and the consequences of sinful behavior. It looks like the evil one has the upper hand. There are many parallels between our culture and the culture faced by the first century Christians. Therefore, it is important for us to be grounded in the Word of God. In John’s gospel we learn why we read scripture daily.
“Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
--John 20:30-31
What I learn from Scripture is that the end of times will happen by the hand of God. He is still in control of His creation and His creatures. I would encourage you to attend worship in the coming months as we look at how God will protect and deliver His children from the coming judgement. We are those who cling to the hope we have in Christ.
“For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.”
--Hebrews 10:36-40
The Meals on Wheels Dinner & Pie Auction Update!
The Meals on Wheels Dinner & Pie Auction was a great success! Over $6000 was raised for our local Meals on Wheels chapter. There are so many people that made this happen and deserve our most heartfelt thanks.
The Church Council for funding the expenses.
Our cooks, who prepared (and donated) the food: Molly Strubbe, Stacy Roth, and Sharon Meyer.
Our pit master: Walter Chester, who smoked and delivered the brisket and pulled pork.
Those who set up and tore down tables: Brian and Michael Flanery, Tyler Roth, Howard Meyer, Don Newman and so many others I can't remember them all.
Table decorators and money collection: Bob and Gloria Rolofson
The "Right Hand Woman": Lainie Roth.
The Pie Bakers: Gwen LawRance, Lois Rausch, Sue, Courtney and the Flanery children, Sandy Barsh, Becca Burton, Lisa Moreau, Sharon Meyer and Harvey Lightner.
Auctioneer: Bryan Knop and his trusty sidekick Wayne Knop
A total of 60 pies were auctioned off and nearly $4000 of our total was just in pie sales.
This couldn't have happened without everyone's involvement. Thank you! God is so good!
--Beth Ramsey
October is Pastor Appreciation Month and the most important way to thank God for your church worker is to receive the gifts that He provides through them: go to church to receive God's gifts of Word and Sacrament.
I have held many things in my hand,
and have lost them all;
but whatever I have placed in God's hands
that I still possess.
-- Martin Luther
Whoa! Wait! Where did the summer go? Kids are all back in school (thankfully in person), sports are on going, activities are coming fast and furious! We had a great Pie Auction and Sunday School kick off and are looking forward to more activities together. And thanks to all who participated!
Did you know there are over 2000 verses in the Bible about stewardship? The Bible is full of wisdom about stewardship according to God's Word. So how important is it to think about giving of our time, talents, and abilities when it comes to God and His church?
The world says one thing but the Bible points to a better way - a way that glorifies God and actually helps us live fuller and more joyful lives. Before we fill our lives, and the lives of our children, be sure to cut out time for God. Worship, Pray, Stay in the Word, Be Obedient, and Tithe!
We look forward to continuing to meet together, to pray, praise and give thanks for all that God has given us. See you in church!
In His Service,
Sue Flanery, Treasurer
The All Church BBQ was a big success and we were able to raise over $500 to support veterans! If you have not signed up for Sunday school yet please do so, it's not too late!
The October Council Meeting/Book Club is on Tuesday, October 11th at 7 PM.
