The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
November 20, 2022
Greetings!

This weekend's article is presented by Father Ritche:

It is providential that Thanksgiving is observed the week when we end the Church’s calendar year with the Solemnity of Christ the King. We are reminded this weekend of a God, who became flesh in Jesus Christ, a King who is “meek and humble of heart.” The gospel story paints that meekness and humility as Jesus forgives the repentant thief with a promise: “Today you will be with me in paradise.” What a gift that is!

The children’s choir sings every 2nd Sunday of the month at the 11:30am Mass, and rehearsals will take place on the Tuesday prior to that Sunday. Our next rehearsal in preparation for Sunday liturgy will be on Tuesday, December 6 from 3-4pm in the church.

Mass of Renewal – Curtis Stephan

Starting on November 26-27, we will switch our mass setting from Ed Bolduc’s “Mass of Saint Ann” to “Mass of Renewal” by Curtis Stephan for the Advent and Christmas season. It is common for music ministries to swap mass settings multiple times throughout the year. There are plenty of considerations made when we switch to a different mass setting. From a musical perspective, choosing different mass settings presents an opportunity to learn how other composers interpret the Gloria, Holy, Lamb of God, etc.

Composers may create a mass setting based on their own church’s needs or for a specific liturgical season as well. In my view, the ability to present various mass settings throughout the calendar year at Holy Spirit is a testament to the strength and flexibility of our parish community. We will sing the Alleluia, Holy, When We Eat This Bread, Amen, and Lamb of God from Stephan’s “Mass of Renewal.” Click here for a YouTube playlist that you can listen to at home.
