Our Road, Your Communities

April 22 is Earth Day
The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970. The purpose of Earth Day is to foster appreciation for the earth's environment and raise awareness of the issues that threaten it, and it has a strong focus on ecological sustainability. This fits perfectly with our mission at PA Route 6 Alliance, which is to conserve and enhance the community’s resources and maintain a quality of life for present and future generations.
This Earth Day, consider getting involved with a road cleanup crew, volunteering with a local conservation organization, or taking time to plant a few trees and flowers. These are little things that can make a huge difference.
One of the best ways to celebrate Earth Day is to support local shops, farms, artisans, and organizations who are environmentally conscious. Many of the stops along our Artisan Trail encourage sustainability and preservation while featuring some of the region's most talented artists.

Celebrate Earth Day with the DCNR and Tom Ridge Environmental Center
While some facilities along the Great Lakes offer environmental education and others do research, none offer research, education, and visitor services in one place, and that's what makes the Tom Ridge Environmental Center such a unique destination. Located in Presque Isle, TREC is open year-round and offers free admission to its interactive exhibits, glass-enclosed 75-foot tower, and orientation movie. TREC takes learning to a whole new level of family fun!
This month at TREC, the DCNR will host the Virtual History of Earth Day. To learn more about Earth Day and upcoming DCNR events, CLICK HERE.

This Month's "Share Your Adventure on 6"
In the last edition of the "Our Road is Your Road" newsletter, we asked readers to share a photo and/or story about their favorite stop on Route 6. The two photos below were submitted by Nancy Taylor and are of the Barbour Rick Trail at Colton Point State Park.
Nancy writes: "Full disclosure on my photos that I submitted. My husband Ron and I owned the Colton Point Motel. We are the ones who purchased the bench for the overlook. That is my husband Ron and his aunt in the photo. My husband has since passed away so this is one of my favorite pictures of him and his aunt. We purchased the bench after the two of them had walked to the overlook. Barb was very tired and of course had nowhere to sit. This photo was taken after the bench was in place and we walked out for her to see it."
