Based on my anecdotal observations of the empty store shelves over the weekend we were as prepared as we could be for Hilary, she just didn’t show that much. Kind of like the Padres and all the pre-season hype.
I had a chance to sit down this morning with 2 of our brightest business operators Jason and Jasmine
Powell. If the name sounds familiar you are probably one of a legion of residents who have over the years had the pleasure of doing business with their collection of auto dealerships. Jasmine and Jason are part of the legacy family dealerships here in Escondido at the Escondido Auto Mall. We meet usually once a quarter and sometimes more frequently when needed. They are part of a growing number of local businesses centered here in Escondido that have reach well beyond our City limits and they care about our local business community. Their customers come from all over Southern California with a healthy dose of Escondidans too.
They both shared with me their challenge in today’s environment of staffing. They have a bevy of local jobs available right now to fill and there just aren’t enough candidates coming forward to fill these jobs. It’s not something specifically endemic to their business, I hear it all the time from a wide variety of
employers. These are jobs that pay well with benefits and they’re willing to train candidates.
We come together to support each other’s endeavors to make our business community stronger. We discuss the issues and look for solutions and together I believe we can work through our current series of issues and prepare for the next series. That’s the nature of business. Rare are the operations that don’t have something to deal with that may not be at the core of their business but must be dealt with.
It’s through collaborations like these on an ongoing basis that your Chamber is focused on each day. We’re here to help and come up with solutions to our collective challenges and succeed. It’s easy to sit by the sidelines and throw rocks but tackling real issues isn’t going to be solved unless we coalesce our forces and strive to be better.
Thank you, Jasmine and Jason, for your support of not just the Chamber but your industry, fellow dealerships, and the Escondido business community. You represent what is a key strength of our business community and that’s working together to be better.
Please consider joining the Chamber and supporting your local business community. Buy local whenever possible. You can make a difference.
