Science + Culture =
DCIS Paris Educational Trip

Educators Ms. Trista Fussner, a DCIS Science Teacher (pictured here), and Ms. Katherine Clurman, a DCIS English Teacher are organizing all the logistics for a trip to Paris so students can experience a new culture through a medical science lens. They will go to the Museum of the History of Medicine, the City Science Museum, the Gallary of Evolution, the Notre Dame Archeological Museum, and a tour of iconic spots in and around Paris (Musee D-Orsay, Eiffel Tower, Arch de Triomphe, Champs-Elysees, etc.) Many warm crepes will be consumed along the way. Students who have taken French will also be practicing their language skills. Ms. Fussner speaks French as well.

According to Ms. Fussner, "The trip started as an exploration of the home of modern medicine for my Health and Medical Sciences. I then saw the opportunity to blend everything together into a single trip concept. The Health Medical class has been learning about various careers in the health field as well as practicing skills needed for those careers (see students dissecting a frog below). In January the students will be practicing medical examiner skills by identifying the cause of death of a fetal pig. The science trip to Paris will augment all of their learning experiences."

DCIS Foundation wants to help get them there. Will you join us? CLICK HERE to contribute during our Year-End Campaign.

Scholarship Update
During our Fall Scholarship Cycle, we received 31 applications, impacting over 134 students. Applications: Paris, NYC, Japan, and field trips

Scholarship awards will be given out in February, after the board of directors reviews all applications, conducts interviews, and determines fundraising totals. We need donors, large and small, to help fund scholarships.

If able, please donate to us via the COLORADO GIVES for our Year-End campaign. Why donate now? DCIS student educational trips rely on individual donations and during this fundraising drive, bank fees are reduced and we may earn an incentive grant if we make our fundraising goal.
Meg Zimmerman is s Shining Star.
Ms. Meg Zimmerman is the long-time Assist. Principal at DCIS Fairmont. According to Meg, "Ever since we opened our doors, we have been a school supporting students in learning about the world around them, in striving to recognize inequities, and in helping our youth realize their ability to make positive change both now and as they become adults." Meg strives to fix inequities in education by helping to grow multilingual learners and encourage healthy student relationships. She is a stable and constant force in the hallways of DCIS Fairmont.

Meg adds, “What we do is critical. We can count on our youth to be the change we need in our world. That is what DCIS Fairmont focuses on every day.” So, how does Meg relax and re-energize? She is a huge fan of live music concerts all over the state. These experiences give so much Meg joy.
DCIS Travel Club Will Go to NYC in April 2023
The DCIS Baker Travel Club (pictured here), made up of mostly middle schoolers, meets weekly in the Melanie Grant Travel Center to talk about their travel aspirations. According to Assistant Principal/Travel Coordinator Courtney Wickham, "This group of go-getters, are working on their trip to NYC in April 2023. They made the decision on the destination and are planning the basic itinerary. Of course, DCIS Foundation wants to help them get there. CLICK HERE to contribute during our Year-End Campaign.
