Bringing the gifts of heart and hope to our kids

Kate Duvall, Piedmont CASA President
Every day of the year, our Volunteers and Coaches share their hearts with CASA kids, but the holidays are a time when they give even more. They know that for children in the foster care system the joy and magic of the season can be hard to find. It might be their first holiday without their mom or dad. Or they miss their siblings. Or they simply feel like an awkward guest in someone else’s family.

Monday, November 29th was the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville's Service Night for Piedmont CASA. Members generously donated several evening hours to help us hand-address and stamp hundreds of holiday cards.

Then they brought pizza for us and Kate updated them on the amazing work of our CASA Volunteers and Bridges to Success Coaches.

Just before leaving, Kiwanis President Jim Hart surprised us with two beautiful evergreen garlands for the holidays.

CASA Kids Need Kiwanis - and we are so glad to have them on our team!

Don't miss the Piedmont CASA Dreaming Tree!

It's full of wishes, hopes, and dreams for our CASA kids. Visit the Junior League Tinsel Trail at Stonefield. We're the blue tree with the Moravian Star on top.

PCASA Volunteer Appreciation Picnic
CASA Volunteers are the heart of Piedmont CASA. They prove it over and over again. On Tuesday, October 19, we took an evening to celebrate their selfless dedication to kids in the foster care system. Piedmont CASA President Kate Duvall and CASA Supervisor Sherri Rosser announced the Ruth Stone Advocates of the Year: Mary Nafpaktitis for 2020 and Grace Giras for 2021. Then there was a surprise award for our longest serving CASA Supervisor, Kati Naess.

Friends of CASA, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Junior League to the rescue!

For the first time since the pandemic began, we sent appeal letters out with Piedmont CASA's traditional personal touch. On October 7-11, Friends of CASA, led by Co-Chairs Marika Koch and Michi Burke, wrote personal notes on all our letters. On October 14 -17, the women of Kappa Alpha Theta-Delta Chi, led by their Philanthropy Chair, Cecilia Hall, hand-addressed the envelopes. On October 20, 2021, Junior League members, led by Annie Alston, made sure the letters were properly stuffed, sealed, stamped, and ready to mail. Thank you, one and all!
Members of the Junior League spent a long evening making sure our letters were ready to go out on time!

Theta Sorority hosts the most successful Waffle CASA ever!

Ever since we opened our doors in 1995, the Kappa Alpha Theta-Delta Chi Sorority has been a big supporter, but this year was the most amazing one ever! First they hand-addressed close to 1,000 envelopes for our Fall Appeal (see below) - then they hosted a Waffle CASA that beat all records: it raised $7,235 for Piedmont CASA. Big hugs to the women of Theta!
Congratulations Piedmont CASA Volunteer Michele Greep!
Michele Greep, who is also a lieutenant with the Henrico Fire Dept., has been recognized with a "Service Above Self" award from the Western Henrico Rotary Club. This award recognizes first responders who not only stand out in the field of public safety - but also actively give back to their communities. Thank you, Michele!
