Highlights from the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice
Last weekend, a group of 20 JCU students and three staff members traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice. Focusing on the theme: Imagining a Path Forward: Reflection. Reckoning. Kinship, the IFTJ cultivated an environment where people were empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked. Featured keynote speakers included: Fr. Bryan Massingale - Racial Justice Scholar, Keya Chatterjee - Executive Director, U.S. Climate Action Network, and Fr. Greg Boyle, S.J. - Founder of Homeboy Industries. Our JCU group spent the weekend connecting, networking, and learning! Read about what some of our students had to share about their experiences.

"This experience was both humbling and inspiring because I was reminded of all my privilege and blessings in this world, but I was also able to listen to speeches from advocates who are working tirelessly for positive change."
-Caitlin Kenney '22

"The Teach-In was an extremely empowering weekend experience. It was incredible to be surrounded by so many people who have a similar desire to learn and a passion for social justice, but diverse and unique ideas about spreading awareness and tackling the social justice issues discussed."
-Alana Okuley '22
"At the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, I was confronted with issues of which I had previously been ignorant, either through lack of exposure or lack of education. I was challenged to pay attention to the systemic ways we operate throughout our spaces, from learning about the Climate Crisis from Keya Chatterjee to learning how to confront racism as the root of all injustices from Fr. Massingale. I highly recommend the experience to confront yourself with frustrating issues that are not often given the spotlight they deserve."
