Our #MyMagisMessage for the week comes from Mary Sessions, a junior Psychology major, Exercise Science and PJHR minor from Lakewood, OH! Mary has served with Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry, UH Rainbow Connects, Boys Hope Girls Hope, and Lobo Lab Virtual Field Trips!

If you had to state your life mission off the top of your head, in one sentence, what would it be?
To make the most of every day and find the good in the world around me.

#MyMagisMessage
This past year has been full of change, uncertainty, cancelled plans, virtual programs, staying home, and forced flexibility. It has been hard to make plans for the future. It has been hard to find hope we could all be together living normal and healthy lives again. It has been lonely and scary at times. This past year has changed how I look at the world and the incredible resilience we all hold. I think people tend to make grand plans and goals and dreams for the future, but this past year, with so much uncertainty, we have all been forced to slow down and look at what's right here in front of us. To look around and see what is making us happy. Forced us to find peace and joy in different ways than we are accustomed to. I live the Magis by trying to be present each day to my emotions and working to find the good. This looks different every day. Sometimes it's easy to find goodness and joy and sometimes it's a stretch to see the light. Service throughout my life has helped me find goodness and joy in small moments and this continued through virtual service this year. Lobo Labs Virtual Field Trips quickly became a highlight of my weeks as I got to know the kids and have time together to be silly and have fun over zoom. We would “travel,” play games, draw pictures, dance, learn, and laugh together. Finding the commonalities among people and learning with each other is something that always helps me find hope and joy.
