First Tuesday SMTX presents a "When Houston Had the Blues"

in honor of Black History Month

Post-film Q&A: Executive Producer Drew Barnett-Hamilton & Dr. Raphael Travis Jr. — Director, TXST School of Social Work & The Collaborative Research for Education, Art, and Therapeutic Engagement (CREATE) Lab.


The film focuses on the rich, but unheralded, spawning ground of great Black music. No other city can claim giants such as Lightnin’ Hopkins, Big Mama Thornton, Clifton Chenier, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Albert King, Freddie King, and Albert Collins.


In partnership with The Dunbar Heritage Association and The Center for Texas Music History at TXST
