Dear Fellow Alumni,
I want to first introduce myself to those of you who may not know me. I am a proud member of the Class of 1984 and a member of the Board of Trustees since 2009. I’ve had transformational experiences at Allen-Stevenson, as a student, alumnus, and Board member. Allen-Stevenson courses through my veins. In fact, some of my closest friends are those from my time at A-S.
This past year, I had the pleasure of serving on the Search Committee for our new Head of School. The Committee put tremendous thought and time into this process, which included reviewing applications from candidates across the country, narrowing our top choices, and interviewing the finalists. In my role, I wore the distinct hat of an alumnus of the School, and it was important to me to bring that lens to the search committee. It was such a meaningful role to me for a once little boy who had some of his greatest and most memorable journeys within these walls. In October, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to move forward with the Search Committee’s nomination of Duncan Lyon as Allen-Stevenson’s next Head of School.
I am pleased to welcome Duncan as our incoming Head. I strongly believe his qualities will serve not only our current boys, but also our entire A-S community. From my many conversations with him, he is eager to engage with our alumni and looking forward to meeting you next year.
A Head of School is a monumental figure in a young boy's life – Desmond Cole had a big impact on me as a young child. I’m delighted to have Duncan assume this important role for our current and future scholars and gentlemen. I am also confident that he will maintain the strong reputation of our alma mater, and honor the legacy of the School, all while continuing our future growth. And I am certain he will do so with gusto.

Alumni Student Mentorship Program
In 2019, A-S launched a pilot mentorship program for our alumni and Upper Division boys of color. The program has been a huge success, and we are now expanding it to ALL of our 7th and 8th-grade boys.
We are looking for new alumni mentors (college age and up). If you are interested in becoming a mentor or learning more, please reach out to Jen Ziplow directly at jziplow@allen-stevenson.org.

Changes to Alumni Class Years
There are now two classes of 2020 noted as 2020 Gold and 2020 Blue, as selected by their Alumni Council Class Representatives. This adjustment was made to align class years with the recent reorganization of the School into two divisions: Kindergarten – 4th Grade (Lower) and 5th – 8th Grade (Upper). The Class of 2019 was the last to graduate with a 9th Grade, and this change reflects Allen-Stevenson as a K-8 educational institution.

Review Allen-Stevenson on Niche.com!
Word of mouth is always essential to the success of any independent school, and that word has also gone virtual.
For this reason, we are asking for a few minutes of your time to leave Allen-Stevenson a review on Niche.com, an independent review site for schools across the country. Internet reviews are one of the first ways families will learn about us when looking at schools for their boys and may be one of the final resources they explore before making their decision to join our beloved school.
