Life Save Awards

In July, Perry Fire and Emergency Services (PFES) responded to a call regarding a reported person down at Planet Fitness in Perry.

When crews arrived, they found an unresponsive female laying on the floor inside the facility. Perry Fire Lieutenant Gerald Michel and his son, D’Andre Brisson, were at the gym off-duty witnessed the woman collapse and immediately went to assist her. The woman was not breathing or had a pulse. The men immediately initiated CPR.

Planet Fitness employee Tiffini Fernandez quickly rushed an AED which was able to revive the woman. PFES personnel remained with her until EMS crews arrived. She was alert and talking while waiting to be transported to a medical facility. If the initial live=saving efforts of Lieutenant Michel, D’Andre, Ms. Fernandez, and the PFES Rescue-1 crew directly resulted in saving the life of Mrs. Janet Shoenfelt.

Perry Mayor and Council recognized these individuals with a Life Save award and the highest appreciation from the City of Perry.

A special thank you to Mrs. Shoenfelt for her kind words at the September 6 council meeting.

Sewer Master Plan Earns Community Achievement Award

The Georgia Association of Zoning Administrators awarded the City of Perry with the 2022 Community Achievement Award for the City’s Sewer Master Plan.

As the City of Perry continues to grow quickly, averaging about 500 new single-family residential units per year, there was a need to develop a Sewer Master Plan to help plan the necessary, significant improvements to the City’s system.

“The Perry Sewer Master Plan is an innovative analysis produced by our private engineering partner, GWES, LLC, and is comprised of a development plan for anticipating and meeting future sewer needs as the City grows,” says Holly Wharton. City of Perry Community Planner.

The Perry Sewer Master Plan will look to provide for 3 significant improvements.

Planning for and construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Facility that will primarily serve the East and South sewer basins but also help to take the load off the existing Frank Satterfield Wastewater Treatment facility, allowing for additional development in the core and north/west areas of the city.

Illicit Discharge in the City of Perry (And Ways to Reduce It)

The City of Perry’s water quality is vulnerable to pollution and contaminates making their way through our stormwater system.

Ultimately, these contaminates gain direct access into our local streams and impact aquatic species, wildlife, and human health.

There are ways that you can help reduce illegal activities. Read about them here.
