MSU Fourth Annual Giving Day

Giving Day is a way to support and bring to life hundreds of different projects at MSU. The Inclusive Community Camp (ICC) is a summer camp experience for K-8 students, including students with disabilities, to participate in an inclusive setting. This year's theme for ICC is Sense-sational STEAM and will focus on how we use sensors in our daily lives just like scientists.

Teacher candidates in our MAT program serve as camp leaders during a seven-day summer residency where they gain valuable experience interacting with children of different abilities. The Inclusive Community Camp provides an opportunity for MAT teacher candidates to practice skills learned in coursework while serving and engaging with the community.

Please consider helping Inclusive Community Camp through participating in MSU’s Annual Giving Day as an ambassador to our program.

Giving Day will run TODAY, February 15th beginning at noon and will run through Thursday Feb 16 at 5PM. We need all the help and support that we can get in donation solicitation so that we can offer this program at very low cost to our participants and families. We need the help of our networks and stakeholders to make this experience fantastic for our Master of Arts in Teaching candidates. Please spread the word by donating and sharing our link on your network! Please share this link to support this important experience!

MRTP Graduate Highlight

TThe Montana Rural Teacher Project now has 28 graduates from two cohorts and 26 have taken a teaching position in Montana schools. We are excited to highlight how our graduates are doing in their classrooms. This month we feature Tracey Jette.

Tracey is a graduate from the second cohort of MRTP and is in her first year of teaching 6th and 7th grade math at Havre Middle School. She has enjoyed connecting with her students in the classroom as well as at the school sporting events. Tracey lends her ear when her students want to share their stories. One of the best experiences for her has been students recognizing and stopping her to say hello at school functions. She says it makes her "feel like a star!”

MAT Supports Class V Licensure

TThe Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program provides several pathways for new educators to enter the profession. including support for teachers-of-record on Class V licenses to complete the coursework required for a Class II license.

The MAT program offers applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree, a clear pathway to complete a teacher preparation program and become a licensed Montana teacher. The MAT is offered online, with the exception of one, seven-day summer residency on the MSU campus. This allows educators to remain in their communities. Coursework can be completed in as little as one year or spread over a three-year period depending on cohort availability, consistent with Class V licensure requirements.

Read more about the MAT program here. Please reach out directly to Jamie O'Callaghan for questions about how we can support candidates.
