NYC is ranked as the top multicultural city in the World.
DCIS Travel Club is planning a trip there.
According to Kate Collom from Language Trainers, "Some cities are like snow globes. They seem to hold an entire world in their midst". They rank New York City #1 among multicultural cities around the world. In NYC, one can hear 800+ languages spoken and smell ethnic foods in the air. Plus, 35% of the residents were born outside of the U.S. so it is a special place for diversity, inclusion, and creativity.
The DCIS Baker Travel Club (pictured here), made up of mostly middle schoolers, meets weekly in the Melanie Grant Travel Center to talk about their travel aspirations. According to Assistant Principal/Travel Coordinator Courtney Wickham, "This group of go-getters, are working on their trip to NYC in April 2023. They made the decision on the destination and are planning the basic itinerary. Of course, DCIS Foundation wants to help them get there. CLICK HERE to contribute during our Year-End Campaign.

Overnight and day-trip excursions for our youngest global citizens at DCIS Fairmont and DCIS Ford are in the works.
DCIS Italian teacher and an alumnus go back to Italy - as award recipients.
Ms. Marcela Quesada and Mr. Sergio Mayfield
earn NEW recognition and honors.

International curricula and travel experiences at DCIS lead to big things in 2023 for two special community members.

Marcela Quesada (pictured above), the Italian teacher at DCIS Baker earned a scholarship to Accademia Italiana di Salerno which gives her the opportunity to learn new strategies for teaching Italian as a second language. Her award was based on student AP Italian scores and her exceptional teaching methods.

Sergio Mayfield, (pictured here) a 2022 graduate of DCIS Baker (AP Italian with Ms. Quesada) and current student at UC Denver, earned a scholarship to study abroad at John Cabot University in Rome. His award covers lodging, classes, and books. This award allows Sergio to improve his Italian language skills and further his education.

Of note, Sergio Mayfield was one of 11 students and three teachers that DCIS Foundation fully funded for the Italian Exchange program in March 2022. And, this is the first time either scholarship has been awarded to a DCIS teacher and alumnus. Making DCIS proud, again!
The competition for donations has grown exponentially in the last five years - especially for small local nonprofits. If able, please donate to us via the COLORADO GIVES for our Year-End campaign. (open now). Why donate? Our student trips rely on individual donations, bank fees are reduced during this campaign, and we may earn an incentive grant if we make our fundraising goal.
Scholarship Portal Open until Nov 7
The fall scholarship season is under way. Our application portal is open from October 24 - November 7. Our last donation was $12,234 for the DCIS Guatemala trip. CLICK HERE for more information. CLICK HERE to see memorable student travel stories.
