November 2021 Heart Connections

November was a spectacular month for heart connections, with 59 pets finding their forever homes! Also, 71 animals were transferred to adoption-guaranteed partners through our Highway to Home program. Thank you to everyone for making November such a great month for the people and pets of the communities we serve.

We are making more heart connections than ever before! Visit GMHS on the web to view all the homeless pets searching for a forever family and submit your adoption questionnaire electronically. Once approved, a member of our Adoption Team will schedule a time for you to make your very own heart connection!
November 2021 Shelter Snapshot

November was another super month for adoptions and and transfers through our Highway to Home program. We are grateful to all who made it so! The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.
The GMHS Angel Fund provides life-saving care for homeless pets who require surgery; suffer from rare, treatable muscular or neurological diseases; and require expensive treatments for ailments above and beyond basic veterinary care.

Because of partners like you, pets treated through the Angel Fund are healed and go on to lead full, happy lives with their forever families.

Our November 30 Giving Tuesday goal is to raise $10,000, and we hope you'll partner with us to save even more lives!

Those with a heart for homeless pets are invited to support GMHS on Giving Tuesday via a fundraiser on the shelter’s Facebook page, online giving, or by mail at P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, VA 23061.
GMHS is neither affiliated with any national animal welfare organizations nor do we receive funding from the ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States.
Volunteer Opportunities

Are you interested in becoming a GMHS Volunteer? All new volunteers receive individualized training to promote physical distancing and everyone's safety and well-being.

The shelter's greatest current need is for feline foster families. These may include young kittens who require bottle feeding, or older cats with varying medical needs. Fosters receive all necessary supplies and training. Other current volunteer opportunities at GMHS include canine and feline wellness assistants, afternoon dog-walkers for Gloucester County Animal Control, and Highway to Home transport drivers.

To get started, email Volunteer Coordinator Waynette Petty. We can't wait for you to join our life-saving team!

Each ornament features a pet and a wish list item that will make their holidays merry and bright while they await adoption into their forever homes. Donations may be delivered in person or by mail until December 30.

Can't get to the store or shelter in person? Order from our Wish List and have it sent right to our door.
