Monthly News | November 2022

Hello Administrators,

As usual, October was packed with activities at ARI. The month began with live educational webinars, followed by the release of three new continuing education talks for clinicians, and concluded with our two-day online scientific meeting convening participants from around the world for live presentations and discussions on metabolic issues, co-occurring gastrointestinal conditions, and genetics.

While conducting last month's live events, we also reviewed and selected ARI's 2022 research grants and are pleased to announce the recipients on Autism.org. We thank our volunteers and Scientific Advisory Panel members for supporting the review and approval processes. We look forward to learning about the findings from these promising new investigations in years to come.

As we reflect on veterans' service this weekend and prepare for the busy weeks ahead, all of us at ARI wish you and your family a joyful start to the holiday season. For some tips for helping those with sensory differences cope, see holiday planning suggestions on the ARI website. Many organizations will be reaching out for year-end support in the coming weeks; if you plan to give, thanks for believing in the importance of autism research and education and keeping ARI in mind.

Research Updates

From ARRI: Two studies indicate that autoantibodies in maternal blood may provide diagnostic clues in autism

According to two recent studies, certain proteins in the blood of pregnant women may help predict one type of autism in children. In this type of autism, specific maternal immune proteins known as autoantibodies cross the placenta and react to certain proteins found in the fetal brain. This may affect brain development, leading to behaviors linked to autism.
