Bishop Scanlan’s Weekly Video – 9/15/23

Dear Members of the Episcopal Church in Central PA,

On location from her prayer shack in the woods, Bishop Scanlan talks about our diocesan journey of where we’ve been, where we are currently, and where we are headed.

Old Soup...Fresh Thoughts

In my sermon two weeks ago, I was talking about giving to the poor. I mentioned that years ago I was helping to gather donations of food and came upon a 20 year old can of soup. The person who gave that absolutely had their heart in the right place and we cannot fault them.

However, when we give as disciples of Christ, we keep in mind for whom and for what we give. It is our Lord himself and his ministry. This realization changes us. None of us would give Jesus a bowl of 20 year old soup. Or a moldy piece of bread, or a filthy, threadbare coat.

Last week I brought in the now 24 year old can of soup, as well as a crown of thorns. I see them as poignant images of offerings. As you can see in the picture, they are now in the sanctuary, and they will remain there until our stewardship campaign is over.

Rooted in Abundance

Our Stewardship Campaign, Rooted in Abundance, will kick off on Sunday,

October 1. This years’ theme, Rooted in Abundance, resonates with me as it

emphasizes all the ways we give in our church---through time, talent, and

treasure. So much goes on behind the scenes here at Trinity—support to

worship, the Community Breakfast, coffee hour, the Good Samaritan Garage,

Feed My Sheep, to name a few. Many of these efforts are funded privately.

During this campaign, I ask everyone to engage in some discernment of how

you can contribute to the Trinity mission through your time, talent, and/or

treasure.

Thank you.

Gracious God, we give thanks for these gifts, the promises of our members,

for giving in the year to come. We pray that you inspire us with the example

of your freely-given love to serve our neighbors, heal the world, and

strengthen our community. Bless these intentions, pledges, and promises of

our wealth, works, and wisdom for the needs of our church.

Amen.

Jean Shepherd,

Fall Fun! Italian Themed Dinner

October 21st (Saturday) at 3pm! Purely for spending time together in community, breaking bread, and having fun. Spaghetti, bread, salad and dessert. Folks are encouraged to bring photos to share (small display stands and photo protectors will be available after the first of October- thanks to Barb Renaud).

Blessing of the Animals

This will take place on the grounds of Trinity on Saturday October 7th at 10am. If rain, we will be under the awning behind the Parish Hall. After brief prayers Mother Pat will bless all creatures, and "dog tags" will be given out. Photographs for your little friends who do not like to venture out are perfectly fine! Prayers of thanksgiving for life will be offered for companions who went home to God, with a blessing for you as the surviving human companion.

Patio Expansion Project

(Good Samaritan Garage)

Thank you again Van! Van Adams has helped us before, and we have coordinated outreach ministry "business" with him in the past. You may remember his sister Carolyn Roth- she has been a guest speaker here before a few years ago to talk about her book concerning the plants in the Bible.

We have a couple parishioners that have intentions of dedicating this patio and then a bench in memory of their loved ones. More details will be forthcoming.

Van is up top and in the photo to the right Carolyn Roth is on the far left.

Nicely Done Lois! Check out the Helfrick Home.

Memorial Service- Bill Fasnacht

The Rev. Thomas Barton

Rev. Fieck gifted a portrait of this interesting person to Trinity's collection back in 1986. Probably the first Anglican clergyman in this area, as there is no record of anyone before him.
