Board Information/Updates:
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Presentation:
Ms. Lana Knuth, EHS AVID Site Coordinator, reviewed the details of the AVID program and its mission: "To close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society." To participate in AVID students are identified in middle school and need to meet certain criteria to qualify. Currently, there are over 130 students being positively impacted by AVID at Emporia High School. A former AVID student and 2 current students shared their success stories as a result of their affiliation with AVID. All 3 students agreed that they would not be where they are today without the AVID teachers and their support. Click here to view the AVID presentation.

Timmerman Redesign Presentation:
Timmerman Elementary staff members presented their Redesign proposal to the Board of Education. The proposal focused on three goal areas which are composed of student engagement, school structure, and family/home support. The group also shared their proposed Redesign strategies and the purpose behind each of those strategies and how they are aligned with the KESA. Timmerman will present their proposal to the Kansas Department of Education in the upcoming weeks. Click here to view the Timmerman Redesign presentation.

Staff Appreciation/Wellness Time:
Dr. Brad Kempf, Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, reviewed calendar changes and recommendations to provide appreciation/wellness to all district employees. The adjustments to the calendar for staff is only for the 2021-2022 school year. The board voted to approve the following changes.
  • 9-month employees will work a half-day on May 26
  • 10- and 12-month employees will not work on May 27 and all district buildings will be closed
  • USD 253 staff who work at Maynard Early Childhood Center and in outlying districts should check with their principal/coordinator to learn of your schedule change
