Join Missio Seminary in Celebrating 50 Years

A Note from President Frank James
|
|
Earlier this month, Todd Mangum and I were a tag-team at Grace Bible Church in Souderton, PA. Many of you are aware that my predecessor and dear friend, Dr. Dave Dunbar, is the senior pastor at Grace Bible Church. Todd was there to preach and I was there to express MISSIO’s deep appreciation for their many years of support--their prayers, financial contributions and sending students our way. It was a pleasure to present a plaque to the church signifying our gratitude. Over the next several months we plan to visit a good number of other churches to express our appreciation.
Graduation is set for June 4 at Church of the Saviour. We are still planning for this to be in-person--Lord willing. We will be honoring our commencement speaker, Rev. Cal Reed, with an honorary doctorate for his service to the seminary as board chair.
The Polis Institute is open and will start accepting applicants on May 1 for the first certificate: Certificate in Social Enterprise. We will ultimately offer 3 certificate programs to equip and empower church and lay leaders to integrate faith, work, and entrepreneurial skill for the flourishing of communities. Polis will give special attention to programs and training opportunities for bi-vocational pastors to thrive in ministry, to assist churches by diversifying their revenue streams, and to afford Christian businesses the opportunity to live out their faith in the community.
Please pray for peace in our world--especially in the Ukraine. And, pray for MISSIO as we enter a new frontier of a post-COVID world.
Frank A. James III, DPhil, PhD
President and Professor of Historical Theology

The world is changing, accelerated by social and racial tensions, a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and a growing sense of fear especially as Russia continues its assault on Ukraine.
How can ministry and church leaders address this difficult time? And how do these realities impact the way Missio Seminary carries out its mission?
REALChange – The Campaign for Missio was launched in 2018 as an effort to meet the challenges of providing the best possible ministry preparation for this complicated age – and God has blessed this important campaign.
With less than three months to go, we need you! We have $200,000 to raise to continue giving our seminary students an excellent education. To do this, we'll need everyone to step in and join us. We are grateful for the growing number of alumni, friends, foundations, and corporations who are helping us prepare the current and next generation of ministry leaders!

We invite others to join with us in prayer and praise to God for helping Missio as we prepare ministry leaders and counselors to “follow Jesus into the world”!

The Ukraine Conflict through the Eyes of
Missio Donor Dawn Arthur
|
|
Dawn’s History and Involvement with Missio
Dawn’s husband, Dan, is the son of Richard Arthur who served on the board and was passionate about Missio and the ministry. They currently support a scholarship for Missio students in his name: the Richard Arthur Scholarship. When she married her husband Dan in 1984, she met Dr. Dave Dunbar who was an itinerant pastor at the church she attended. Later she met alum Nathan Tuckey (’94) when he was a guest preacher at Kenilworth Gospel Chapel and now he and alum Jeremy Moore (’10) are her pastors at South Ridge Community Church in Clinton, New Jersey.
|
Dawn’s History and Involvement with Ukraine
Dawn’s lineage is Slavic, her parents are from Russia and her maternal grandparents are from Belarus. For over 25 years she has worked for a non-profit called Slavic Missionary Service, Inc. that currently supports 40 national missionaries in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. By God’s grace, humanitarian aid and the gospel message are spreading in these areas in this time of war.

Dawn's Personal Request for Friends of Missio
Dawn has been praying the Lord’s Prayer over this situation, with these lines being particularly impactful, “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” “deliver us from evil”. She is praying for peace and hope in Christ for all and would like for us, her Missio family, to come alongside her and pray.

The ACS program is for any student desiring a theological education whose primary language is not English. Missio understands the challenges that come with relocating to a new place often with confusing customs. Advanced Cultural Studies is designed to support these students and provide instruction that will enrich their graduate-level education and training needs.
