December 2, 2022

Dear 43rd Warders,

It has been a busy week in our 43rd Ward, focusing on the things that matter to this office most - community building, advancing constituent services, and supporting generosity of all kinds.

First, last night I had the privilege of welcoming Santa to our 43rd Ward at the Lincoln Common Tree Lighting. It was generous of Santa to make the early trip from the North Pole, and we bonded over how much black coffee we both drink these days. December is filled with events to foster community and giving in the 43rd Ward. A bunch are listed later in the newsletter, and I will see you there!

On Tuesday, 43rd Ward teammate Maggie & I took another ride along with 43rd Ward Superintendent Marty Casey. Marty and his team have been working tirelessly to execute this year’s extended 43rd Ward street sweeps, which we are continuing today. In past years, street sweeps ended in mid-November, so I want to thank Marty for the massive effort it took to make this possible and for keeping our ward so clean! It is important to me that as a 43rd Ward team we see each block and corner through Marty’s expert perspective. That’s why we are going to continue these ridealongs as a new standard practice in our office.

Finally, yesterday I had the pleasure of sitting down with the leadership team at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. The Children’s presence is such a gift to the City, and in particular, our 43rd Ward. We discussed many impact items, including vaccination, health equity, and our shared work in championing a modern, accessible, and destigmatized approach towards championing mental health. This is something we care deeply about and will keep this important conversation ongoing in our work.

Grateful for our community,

Joys of Toys from GCNA

December 3

Because Gold Coast Neighbors Association knows you want to be an important part of this holiday season, we invite you to participate in “Joy of Toys”, a beloved neighborhood tradition, sponsored by the North Dearborn Association. The celebration will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and will be hosted for the 29th year by Mario.

Because of health concerns, you can participate in this annual event in one of two ways: either drop off wrapped or unwrapped toys at Mario’s Table on December 3 or make a donation by going to the NDA website www.northdearbornassociation.com.

If you drop off your gift, you can ward off December’s chill with a hot chocolate, mulled wine, or hot toddy in Mario’s heated outdoor patio, the Winter Garden, compliments of special-guest Santa Claus—and Mario.
