The past month witnessed a burst of vibrant Research & Innovation activities in the Panther Land!
PVAMU has received a $12 million award from Department of Education. It will help to recruit, prepare, and develop a strong diverse educator workforce. Over 100 students at undergraduate and graduate levels began their new academic year research projects through the Faculty RISE programs working under their faculty mentors. In addition, the 2nd annual Panthers Invent competition, a weekend-long innovation experience, was a grand success. Over 25 students from various disciplines competed to develop an invention in response to a real-world challenge presented by the Sponsor, Sandia National Laboratories.
The Division of Research & Innovation and its Office of Sponsored Programs hosted the inaugural Principal Investigators PI-Appreciation Day. The inaugural event recognized the principal investigators of sponsored grants for their dedication to advancing the knowledge and efforts to secure and manage innovative projects. Furthermore, the occasion provided a social setting for the Office of Sponsored Programs staff and the Principal Investigators to discuss their projects. The Staff Enrichment Day provided an excellent opportunity for staff to engage and align with the university's strategic directions and understand the essential connection between the research and staff members.
Under the Title – III HBCU programs launched the next 5-year cycle announcing 16 new projects. These initiatives will strengthen the university's academic programs, research, teaching and learning, library, international programs, innovation and entrepreneurship, writing center, smart classrooms, IT security, and infrastructure. PVAMU is leading several significant research opportunities, such as a consortium development through a partnership with select R2 ranking HBCUs for a $60 million University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) and a $20 million National University Transportation Center opportunity, in addition to several industry partnerships that are in the works.
