"Jesus Loves Me. This I know"
Clint Tawes
Many of us learned the song “Jesus Loves Me” as children, but its simple message holds a deeper truth: love is something we are meant to know, not just hope for. Jesus modeled a love that embraced others fully—and that includes ourselves. In this sermon, we’ll reflect on what it means to truly believe we are worthy of love, just as we are.

What Can We Do?
by Rev. Jane
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by what’s happening in our nation, in our world, and in our own communities and neighborhoods. Add to that that many of us have had grief over the loss of loved ones, illnesses, and other difficulties. At times, we feel helpless. But we are not. We can take lessons from many who have faced difficulties for generations and learn how to persevere. I’ve read lots of articles and posts about all of this, of course. But sometimes, it’s helpful to have something which is a simplistic reminder that we can digest. One of my UU colleagues, Rev. Kate Wilkinson, shared a strategy that uses SIX R’s (Remove, Recalibrate, Rest, Refill, Reconnect, and Resist) as reminders of how we can take care of ourselves and others in times like these. She has provided a visual with examples of activities that I’m going to share with you. I’ve saved mine to my phone and printed it out to post where I will see it often. Perhaps you will find it helpful as we navigate these difficult times. Of course, in the area of reconnecting – I would also suggest that we all make every effort to come to church services and other church activities. These have been so nourishing to me. Being with you folks always gives my heart a lift.
We have lots of good services and activities planned for March. Read this newsletter to find out. Now here’s that helpful graphic.
With LOVE at the center – Always!
Jane

A letter from President
Sharon Ehle
Highlights from the February 2, 2025 Meeting
The Children’s RE Program continues to evolve. We’re excited to have a dedicated group of volunteers for both teaching and assisting. With the goal of having the program expand to every Sunday, the need for people to assist will be ongoing.
We continue to make progress in adherence to our Child Protection guidelines. A successful Volunteer Training session was held. Children are signed in and assigned name tags. Playground equipment was evaluated for necessary repairs.
Identifying the needs of children attending RE is an important aspect of interaction. Beth Sutton has agreed to coordinate food collection and has a list of items easiest to store and distribute.
The Board congratulated the Dining for Dollars Team – Myron Waldman, Brian Merck and Sarabeth Sutton for an outstanding effort and very successful campaign.
The next UUCG Board of Trustees meeting will be held at 12PM on March 16, 2025.

We are off to a wonderful start. A huge thanks to all our teachers and assistants -- and for our childcare lead, Shaneka Brunson. Thanks to Beth Sutton for coordinating food for Sunday, to Brian Merck and the Men's Group for helping our playground stay clean and safe, and to Marcus Arbery for helping with transportation.
We have learned a lot and adjusted as we needed to. This month we will be offering children's programs every Sunday. Check out our bulletin board in the hallway for updates, but also feel free to sit in on a class or talk with any of us about the activities we do centered on UU values.
Let us know if you want to be involved and have a talent to share one Sunday. We are also thinking about projects and crafts for the summer months.
In community, Randy Blasch, Carolyn Wallace, Beth Stevenson

UUCG's Manna House team served lunch to about 250 people on February 26th! We had 10 volunteers (plus 3 additional MH volunteers to support us) and stayed busy making hot dogs and PBJs, assembling sack lunches, and serving MH guests. I think we actually could have done without the additional volunteers since we've now got a good number of folks who know where things are and what needs to be done when.
Our next service day will again be the 4th Wednesday of the month, March 26, 9am - 1pm. I'll email more information to everyone in mid-February.
We hope for another large team as no other groups are currently scheduled for this date, so feel free to bring a friend. Please text or email Kim Merck if you'd like to be on the Manna House email list: (912) 580-7029 or kimym31525@gmail.com

Sunday, March 2, 2025 9:00 – 10:10 AM in UUCG Bill Phillips Forum Room
Discussion leader: Brian Merck
Topic: Meet Your New AI Overlords
This will be a conversation on the status and future of artificial intelligence. Although the technology will be briefly discussed, the primary focus will be on the people behind the technology - their motivations, goals, and grandiose visions for the future. AI advances will force us to confront what it means to be human. If you’re a human, you might want to learn more.
| |
The Adult Forum is designed to encourage discussion by sharing our stories and wisdom so we may “learn more about being human.”
We meet to reinforce the “warmth or community” that calls us to attend church.
Meetings are on the FIRST SUNDAY of the month from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
