Haverford Business Developments - October 2021

We have been hearing reports from businesses that they are struggling to find employees. At times some have had to close or reduce their hours due to staffing shortages. We know there are good candidates out there and we want to help make that connection. To this end, HPED (Haverford Partnership for Economic Development) is organizing a jobs fair at the CREC at Haverford Reserve on October 12th from 4:00-7:00pm. If you are a Haverford Township business with current openings and you would like to participate in the jobs fair, please email Jeanne and Melissa at info@hped.org.

If you cannot come to the jobs fair, you can still post open positions at businesses in the Township on our Discover Haverford Jobs web page. Email us at info@hped.org with details about your job opening and contact information or a link to your website.

HPED's New Project Coordinator

HPED is pleased to welcome our new part-time project coordinator, Melissa Batchelor. Melissa attended St. Joes University and has several years experience coordinating programs and events. She lives in Paddock Farms with her husband and two young girls, and loves living in Haverford Township. She has been president of the Paddock Farms Civic Association for the past three years.

Join the 2022 Haverford Home & Garden Show!

Our next Haverford Home & Garden Show is scheduled for Sunday, March 6th, and we are now recruiting show sponsors and vendors!

The show serves as a way to foster economic growth by connecting residents in the region with local businesses, as well as to raise funds for the work of HPED.

The 2022 show will include up to 70 vendors representing a variety of businesses such as general contractors, architects, interior designers, arborists, plumbers, electricians, roofers, painters, landscapers and lawn care providers, realtors, financial services such as banks, phone and internet services, and businesses that sell home improvement, gardening or landscaping products.

There will be a marketplace where vendors will sell home and garden items such as garden tools, bird houses and bird feeders, fine art, plants, home decor, antiques, and gift items.

Our keynote speaker will be Doug Tallamy, ecologist and best-selling author of several books, including 2020’s Nature’s Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard. Other speakers and demonstrations related to home and garden will also be scheduled. We will have a “green zone” with information about local initiatives regarding sustainable home and garden practices. We will repeat our very popular Furniture Flip Contest. In addition, Make & Take projects will be offered for children and adults.

Vote for Winner of Standing Ovation Award!

HPED will be giving out several annual awards at our Annual Meeting on October 20th, and we are asking the public to vote in the run-off for the Standing Ovation Award.

The HPED standing Ovation Award is presented to a business of the highest standards, offering exceptional customer service, an attractive, welcoming environment, and engagement in the community life of Haverford Township.

The businesses listed have received the highest number of nominations over the past month. The deadline to vote is Friday, October 1st. Please vote for one business by emailing info@hped.org:

HPED Welcomes West Oak Financial Services!

HPED is pleased to welcome West Oak Financial Services, our new next-door neighbor at 414 Darby Road in Havertown! Owners Deborah and Damon Montgomery moved in on September 1st and are excited to be part of the Havertown community.

Deborah grew up in Southwest Philly and Damon in North Philly, but now live in Lansdowne with their blended family of four children. The two met twenty years ago when Deborah was the mortgage loan officer for Damon’s house purchase, but they did not start dating until they ran into each other eight years later!

Deadline Extended for Township's

"Back to Business" Grants

Haverford Township recognizes the struggle many businesses endured throughout the early months of

the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to feel as our community fights through it. We also recognize the

value of local businesses and that local businesses build community. With that acknowledgment, the

Township has allocated monies from its American Recovery Plan Act funds to assist Haverford Township businesses that have experienced negative economic impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. Click the button for more information.

We have sold over $35,000 in gift cards, and $21,000 of those have not been used yet! Our businesses don't benefit until the cards are used, so make a plan to use yours this week!
