In an unprecedented and coordinated push to end taxpayer protections provided by California’s landmark Proposition 13, on Tuesday the Governor, Legislative Leaders, and the State Democratic Party launched another salvo to end the very popular law with a petition to the state Supreme Court asking that they remove the Taxpayer Protection Act from the November 2024 ballot so voters cannot vote to restore Prop. 13.
This follows a late in the Legislative Session gut-and-amend of ACA 13 which was pushed through in the final two weeks of session. ACA 13 was specifically designed to derail the Taxpayer Protection Act by increasing the number of votes it needs to pass – changing the rules AFTER the measure is on the ballot.
