Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month

Solana Beach proudly joins in celebrating Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month! During this special time, we honor the many contributions our Hispanic and Latino communities have made to the history and culture of Solana Beach and the Country. La Colonia, also known as Eden Gardens, stands as a testament to our shared history, founded in the 1920s by Mexican farmers and remaining one of Solana Beach's oldest neighborhoods. Today, Latinos and Latinas continue to shape our city and the nation as business owners, activists, artists, public servants, and more. Join us in celebrating their invaluable contributions this Hispanic Heritage Month!

Solana Beach Marine Safety Captain Leads Lifeguards to Victory at the Solento Surf Festival

On September 16th, the second annual Solento Surf Festival took place at Seaside State Beach, offering a day filled with family-friendly activities, including surf contests, live music, and delectable food and drinks. Among the standout events was the "Fire vs Water" surf contest, a unique competition that pitted the top surfers from North County's Lifeguard and Fire Departments against each other in an exciting tag team battle. Solana Beach's very own Marine Safety Captain, Jason Shook, dominated the competition and led the lifeguards to their second consecutive victory in the contest. Congratulations to Captain Shook and his team for their impressive win!

Citywide Street Repair Project

The Annual Citywide Pavement Rehabilitation Project will begin on Monday, October 2nd. The asphalt and concrete repair work is scheduled to occur simultaneously in several locations throughout the City. Highland Drive, from Lomas Santa Fe to Uno Verde, will be the most severely impacted area due to the construction of new raised medians and a complete resurfacing of the entire street. Highland Drive is expected to be impacted for approximately 3 weeks and the City-wide construction activities are expected to take 18 weeks.  A map of all locations is available on the City’s website. Please use caution while traveling through these construction zones and keep an eye out for any construction traffic and detour signs put in place.

Mosquito Alert: West Nile Virus Detected

Recent mosquito samples from the north end of Los Peñasquitos Lagoon tested positive for West Nile virus. Although no human cases have been reported, it's crucial to follow the County's "Prevent, Protect, Report" guidelines. To reduce the risk of West Nile virus transmission, the County's Vector Control Program conducted aerial mosquito larvicide applications on September 20th-21st. The City asks all residents to please remember to eliminate standing water, wear long sleeves, and use repellent when outdoors. Mosquitoes in our area can carry various diseases, so let's unite to ensure our community remains safe and mosquito-free.
