This has been an exciting week in the Hendrick Hudson School District, with students enjoying fun and festive Spirit Week activities at all five schools and home games for our fall sports teams. The excitement has been building for Homecoming Weekend, which includes a home football game against Pearl River High School at 6:30 tonight and a Color Run and Homecoming Dance tomorrow.
We had a great turnout at our Meet the Teacher nights at all three elementary schools and the middle school (sixth grade), and I would like to thank everyone for their participation. A reminder that Meet the Teacher nights are coming up for the high school on Wednesday, September 28 and the middle school (seventh and eighth grade) on Thursday, September 29.
This week we were proud to announce that HHHS seniors Brendan Chan and Alexandra Schaffe have been named Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, putting them in the company of less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, based on their scores on the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. We were also thrilled to share that HHHS senior volleyball player Amya Davis was named a Con Edison Athlete of the Week, a prestigious honor that considers not only a student’s athletic achievements, but also academics, leadership skills and community service. Finally, I am excited to announce that we will be launching a new digital newsletter next month, created expressly for elementary school families, that will spotlight the wonderful classroom and school-wide activities going on at Frank G. Lindsey, Buchanan-Verplanck and Furnace Woods Elementary Schools. This new publication will be in addition to our district-wide e-newsletter, The Lanyard. It will not replace any direct communication from your child's principal or specific school building.
