Hello Old Donation!
Wow! I had an absolutely wonderful time at my very first Oyster Roast with you! It was amazing to see so many turn out to prepare, set-up, organize, pull-off, and clean up Oyster Roast. Thank you, thank you, thank you to each and every one of you who helped in a myriad of ways to make this an outstanding day. And it truly was outstanding! We had wonderful attendance and raised over $15,000, which will go to support Outreach after expenses, well exceeding our expectations after a two-year hiatus. The food, shopping, games, and tours all provided multiple ways to not only raise money to help our community, but also to actually meet those in our community. It truly is a marvelous event, and I was honored to be a part of it.
And the weekend fun didn’t end there! We had over 300 total people in our three services on Sunday as we all enjoyed an Instructed Eucharist, learning more about the meaning of our worship and deepening our connection to the service. The youth also had an eventful day with a great group of middle schoolers enjoying fun and fellowship at Apex Entertainment with laser tag and games, as well as a successful meeting of high schoolers from Old Donation, Eastern Shore Chapel, and All Saints’ in preparation for their Ireland pilgrimage this coming summer.
This week, we wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving with safe travels for you and your families as you celebrate the holiday. We will have a Thanksgiving Day Holy Eucharist in the Church at 10am. We invite you to come celebrate with us!
Sunday, 27 November begins the season of Advent. For the season of Advent, we will return to two 10am services, one in the Church and one in the Great Hall. This Sunday, join us after the 10 am services to make your own Advent wreaths to take home. For the remainder of Advent, Adult Formation will be dedicated to discussing and singing various Advent hymns. Sunday, 4 December will be a special day as Bishop Nicholas of Myra (St. Nick!) comes to visit us in the Gathering. Join us for these special holiday offerings.
This Sunday, you will also see the Angel Tree return to the narthex so that we can provide presents for children who have a parent in jail. In addition to the Angel Tree, we are also accepting new toys in partnership with the Urban Renewal Center to give to 3rd-8th graders in need. Later in Advent, our annual coat drive will get started up. We invite you to support these ministries as you are able to make a difference in the lives of those in our community.
Next week, on Wednesday, 30 November, the Day School will host their annual Stop n’ Shop with handmade items and vendors from Pampered Chef, Young Living, Tupperware, and more! Drop by Tucker Hall between 8:30am -1:30pm to stock up on Christmas gifts!
Thank you to all who have already turned in pledge cards, and if you still have a pledge to turn in, we’d be happy to receive it! The vestry is hard at work on next year’s budget.
This week, Bob+ is preaching 8 and 10am in the Historic Church, and I will be preaching at the Gathering and 5pm.
See you soon!
