Dear Northwest Families,
Happy Thanksgiving! As you and your family head into the Thanksgiving holiday, I hope you know how grateful we are for you! Our talented students, amazing teachers and staff, and supportive parents and communities are what make Northwest ISD so special. Thank you for believing in our students and our schools.
I also want to thank our staff and community for supporting
the Northwest ISD Virtual Angel Tree. This program is very dear to us, and we are proud to have a community that willingly gives back. A record-setting 1,525 students were adopted this year. We truly appreciate the tremendous support and generosity of so many, as well as the volunteers who make this program possible.
Our schools have been very busy. Beyond the incredible learning experiences happening in our classrooms, it has been exciting to see the parent involvement and support at our school events and activities. From packing the stands at our recent football and volleyball playoff games to joining the celebrations honoring our veterans, the level of support has been tremendous. It is often said that it takes a village, and our students and staff are truly blessed to have our NISD village.
At the district level, we have also been busy. With plans to hopefully name a new superintendent in December, our School Board has been moving through the superintendent search process and conducting interviews. With the 88th Legislative Session coming up in January, we have also been working to develop legislative priorities to focus our attention on the issues we believe could have the greatest impact on our students and schools.
Our student enrollment continues to climb, with NISD currently topping 29,300 students. We are projected to reach 30,000 students this school year. The Long-Range Planning Committee continues to work to develop a plan and long-term recommendation to help meet our student growth and facility needs. You can follow along and ask questions at
www.nisdtxlrpc.org.
As you are likely aware, Northwest ISD is growing rapidly and will open five new schools next year (three new campuses and two replacement buildings), and we have been evaluating our school attendance boundaries. Mark your calendars for the Facebook Live chat on December 14, at 6 p.m., to learn more about rezoning preparations for our future schools. This presentation will also address two schools that we are planning for in a future bond proposal, an eighth middle school and fourth high school, as well as their projected locations.
I hope you and your family have the opportunity to take a break, relax, and enjoy time together. When school resumes on Monday, November 28, we will only have a few short weeks to wrap up the first semester. Please encourage your student to come back refreshed, focused, and with a renewed determination to finish strong.
From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
Michael Griffin, Ed.D.
Acting Superintendent of Schools
