Session 1, 10 AM - Noon

Abuse Prevention & Youth Protection in Camps & Ys

Stay updated on industry standards for youth abuse prevention and the latest insurance trends related to youth abuse incidents. This session will go beyond compliance tasks like policies and background checks to address proactive measures in abuse risk management. As the youth insurance market tightens, camps and Ys must adopt effective strategies to ensure safe environments for youth. This includes reviewing policies and procedures to ensure they are updated to reflect current industry standards, updating training for staff, assessing supervision, and recalibrating response procedures.

Audrey Oliver will cover:

  • Understanding the scope of organizational sexual abuse and prevention strategies
  • Updating policies, procedures, and staff training to reflect current standards
  • Screening for abuse risks during hiring
  • Best practices for staff supervision and camper and client safety
  • Developing a survivor-centered response to abuse incidents

Participants will also receive practical resources for immediate implementation and are encouraged to review their current abuse prevention practices before the workshop.

Session 2, 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Tabletop Crisis Scenarios

This session will cover two crisis scenarios: a weather event requiring sheltering in place, and a 15-passenger van accident resulting in significant injury. Participants will discuss incident management, communication, coordination, media handling, and more.

Bring your crisis/emergency plans and be prepared for active participation. This is a excellent opportunity to collaborate and learn from others with diverse crisis response experience.
