Happy National Mentoring Month!

January 2023
CCD Center Newsletter
Greetings!

Happy New Year and Happy National Mentoring Month! This January is the perfect time to reflect on the benefits of mentorship and how one conversation, one experience, and one mentor can change a person’s life.

As we look to build on all we accomplished together in 2022, I am excited about the opportunities 2023 will provide for the Coalition for Career Development Center. This newsletter provides updates about our CCD Board and Staff on the Move, State Leaders Network, CCD projects, headlines from the news and our partners in case you missed it, and resources for Mentoring Month.

I look forward to our ongoing collaboration and wish you a wonderful new year!

In her role at WestEd, she provides technical assistance, project management and strategic guidance in the areas of college and career readiness, social emotional learning and school improvement at the school, district and state levels.
State Leaders Network
Attendees at the December 2022 SLN meeting enjoyed an informative presentation by Iowa on a local WBL program. Thanks to Kristy Volesky, Iowa State Department of Education; Kylie Rinehart, MercyOne Hospitals; Stephanie Oppel, Des Moines Area Community College; and Lexi Shafer, Johnston High School Internship Coordinator, SLN members were able to discuss work-based learning coordination and employment in depth with those putting quality WBL into practice. You can catch the recording of the insightful session HERE (Passcode: R3nEvc8). In addition, Iowa is also pleased to offer up a FREE webinar series on WBL implementation models. Registration is limited; however, they will all be recorded and posted.

Our next meeting is on January 13 from 11 am - 12 pm Eastern and will connect with this month’s theme of mentoring. The Work-Based Learning employer mentor relationship is critical and even more so for those from traditionally underrepresented groups. Join us to hear the discussion led by our CEO, Eva Mitchell, with Brooke Woodson, Director, Diversity & Compliance at Shawmut Construction, and Christie Lindor, former technologist turned workplace culture and inclusion strategist. Contact RKKubicek@CCD-Center.org to attend!
Projects Update
The CCD Research team is drafting the 2023 Report on the Condition of Career Readiness in the United States which focuses on access to quality career readiness programs and services using two analytic strategies. State-level data relevant to career readiness outcomes are analyzed and organized into four life phases – upon leaving high school, postsecondary education and training, early career phase for young adults, and adults navigating into career pathways. Federal legislations – ESEA, Perkins V, Higher Education Act, WIOA – are reviewed for each of the four life phases to capture career readiness language, its alignment with PCAP, and to what extent funding may be available to improve the design and implementation of career readiness programs and activities. The first draft will be ready by February for an internal review.

We are pleased to announce that CCD is supporting the 6 cities sponsored by J.P. Morgan Chase’s New Skills Initiative, working with Education Strategies Group and with Advance CTE as lead.
