Sunday December 4th

Advent 2

From Generation to generation - God meets us in our fear.

In Sunday's story an angel appears to Mary and tells her not to be afraid.

Yeah, right. You hear voices and you shouldn't be afraid? Who wouldn't be terrified! We're all afraid of something. This story suggests that God meets us in our fear. Do you think so? I sure hope so!

Helping on Christmas Eve

For the first time since 2019 we are aiming to have our in-person Christmas Eve services. We want to do all we can to create a meaningful experience for all who attend on Christmas Eve and we need your help. We need help at our 4:00 Kids PJ Celebration (greeting) and at our two Candlelight services (greeting, reading, serving Communion) If you can help at 4:00 please email Jen. If you can help at 7:30 and/or 9:00 please email Paul. It is so exciting to be welcoming people back to these services.

Offering Envelopes for 2023

It is hard to believe that it will be a new year very soon. In the past few years, because we spent a lot of time worshiping from home, we have been reusing old envelopes. This year we have new offering envelopes available.

If you have envelopes left over from previous years please recycle them or use them for crafts! Your new envelopes will be ready to pick up on Sunday morning at the welcome table.

If you do not currently have envelopes but would like some, please contact Jenny in the office or check in with a greeter on Sunday morning.

Sunday Dec 4th

THIS WEEK!

It isn't just meat pies that are back! We will be having a mini bazaar from 9AM-Noon on Sunday December 4th with a craft table, bake table and of course, the meat pies. If you can contribute something, please contact Marie Carney.

Drop off any crafts and baking between 10am & 12pm on Saturday Dec 3rd at the church.

Volunteers needed!

For many of us, Norval United Church’s warm welcome is one of the main reasons we came back after our first visit.

You can help carry on this fine tradition!

Join Jen Stinson and George Smith as we live out our faith in God’s radical hospitality by welcoming all who attend on Sunday.

If you can smile and say “welcome” you are qualified! Volunteer 1, 2 (or more!) Sundays a month on this great team! Or if you prefer short term commitment why not help out during Advent/Christmas or Lent/Easter? Contact Jen Stinson: or call/text 416-706-5050.

Congregational Meeting Report

We had a good congregational meeting on Sun Nov 27th as we heard a presentation from the Trustees about the Phase 2 development for apartments on the excess Norval United lands. There were 52 people present at the meeting.

A motion was passed that "the Trustees be empowered to sign the contract with Kindred Works on the development of apartments on the additional church property." If you would like the Minutes of the meeting and a list of the Questions and Answers please email Jenny. We are excited to be working with Kindred Works. Find out more about their projects below. This was one more step on a very long journey, but it was an important, significant step. Thank you to the Trustees for the work on our behalf.

Below you will find an article from Halton Hills Today about the Town's plans for the land around Norval United Church. Their timing seems to parallel our Phase 2.

Christmas Giving Season

Sunday December 18th

Advent 3

On this Sunday you are invited to bring food items toiletries and other donations for the Georgetown Breadbasket. We will still accept mittens, scarves and toques but agencies tell us they appreciate the gifts cards we have sent in recent years.

In the service we'll place the items under the Giving Tree on the stage. The Outreach Team will send $25 gift cards to Halton Women's Place, Links2Care, and the Georgetown Breadbasket. Mark your financial donations as Giving Tree or Outreach and we'll ensure the gift cards get to the various agencies.

Thank you for giving to the Giving Tree.

Community Soup Making

Soup making was a hit! We made 85 containers of soup and were able to donate most of that to Food For Life. All of the soup was distributed by Food for Life by Tuesday evening. We are looking forward to being able to continue to fill this need in our community. Join us to make soup monthly!

The next batch starts cooking

Dec 11th 12-2PM

No skills necessary. Contact Jen to help out.

Links2Care

The Links2Care Holiday Giving Program is back this year. You are invited to "adopt" a person from the community and purchase their Christmas needs for them.

Find the information about how to support this program on our website.

More Info Here

Fundscrip

Christmas is coming soon! Order your gift cards from FundScrip and a percentage is donated to NUC. Make sure you get your orders in early as it takes about two weeks to process and deliver.

Place your order here and use code S2MV7N to get to the NUC page.

Georgetown Breadbasket

The Breadbasket has issued a 30 day challenge and we encourage you to join in! There is a list of 30 items for 30 days that can be found on their Facebook page. Add the corresponding item each day to a box over the next 30 days and then drop off your box at time for the Holiday Season! We've got a bin at the church ready to collect!

Don't think you can commit to getting all these items..... no problem! Instead, set aside the amount of each item on a daily basis and at the end of the 30 days donate the cost of one of these boxes to us!

In The Community

Sunday Dec 18th @ 2PM

The NUC choir has been invited to participate in an afternoon of Christmas music at St. Andrews United (89 Mountainview Road South).
