AOASM Scholarly Activity Initiative | |
Members of AOASM,
Physicians, are you involved in sports medicine scholarly activities and interested in adding a medical student to your research team? Students, are you hoping to further your involvement with AOASM and add research experience to your residency and fellowship applications?
Then we have an opportunity for you!
Today, we are excited to officially unveil the AOASM Scholarly Activity Initiative with the goal of increasing sports medicine research opportunities in AOASM. Our student representatives have worked hard to make this the best opportunity from which all members can benefit. Operating as a match-making service, the initiative is designed to pair physician and student members from across the country with similar interests to facilitate an increase in both student involvement in research as well as contributions from AOASM members to sports medicine literature. We're thrilled to have you on our team and hope you will consider filling out the short survey (A link can be found in the linked flyers below)! SAOASM Update and Upcoming Events
Written by: Trent Griner, SAOASM National Chair
| |
Happy November, everyone! We are very proud of the year our SAOASM chapters have had so far and we are excited to feature the activities they have been involved in this year. This month, we'd like to highlight an event held by the SAOASM chapter at VCOM-Virginia. Earlier in the year, these students held an event that raised over $600 for the J. Michael Bernardo Scholarship Fund. Their Chapter President, Megan Gordon (OMS-II), shared this message about the importance and impact of the event:
"The J. Michael Bernardo Adventure Race was a triathlon-based race held at Claytor Lake State Park in Dublin, VA. Thirty-six participants competed in a one-mile kayak on the lake, a four-mile bike through the forest trails, and a three-mile run throughout the park. The race consisted of a wave of individual competitors who completed the entire race themselves and a wave of group competitors who each competed in a leg of the race. All the money raised at the event went to the J. Michael Bernardo scholarship fund in memory of J. Michael Bernardo, a VCOM student who passed away from VCOM in 2010 while serving on a medical mission trip. This race served as a reminder of the importance of exercise, spirit, comradery, and teamwork, and of the importance of our commitment to serving rural, medically underserved communities like J. Michael Bernardo."
Strong work, VCOM-Virginia Chapter of SAOASM! Students, please continue to share with us the great things your chapters are doing. Email us at studentaoasm@gmail.com so that we can feature you in a future edition of Sidelines.
