Saint-Saens, Tailleferre, Ravel

Born between 1835 and 1892, eminent French composers Camille Saint-Saëns, Germaine Tailleferre, and Maurice Ravel all share a strong connection to French musical tradition, each contributing uniquely to its evolution. All were deeply influenced by classicism, favoring clarity, elegance, and refined craftsmanship in their compositions. All three composers were also associated with chamber music, particularly piano trios, where they explored rich harmonic textures and intricate interplay among instruments. On Sunday, February 23, the acclaimed French Trio Karénine performs the piano trios of these three distinguished compatriots, as our international season of chamber music highlights and delights continues in the intimate setting and warm acoustics of Burlingame's historic Kohl Mansion. Meet Season Visual Artist Ellen Brook

At the February 23 concert by Trio Karénine, Music at Kohl is excited to introduce our Season 42 Visual Artist, Ellen Brook, to present an exhibit of her rich abstract mixed media paintings and original fashion. Ellen combines gesture, intuitive marks, layers of texture, and a passion for color to explore Eastern ideas related to the mind, the human condition, and the healing and energetic properties of beauty and color. Her current “Message in a Bottle” mixed media series explores themes drawn from recently discovered letters written by her grandfather as a young soldier in WWI.

Meet Ellen and enjoy an exhibition of her work at our February Concert.
