Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Psalm 147:7-11 Sing to the Lord with thanks; Sing praises to our God with a lyre! God covers the sky with clouds; God makes rain for the earth; God makes the mountains sprout green grass. God gives food to the animals--even to the baby ravens when they cry out. God doesn't prize the strength of a horse; God doesn't treasure the legs of a runner; No. The Lord treasures the people who honor him, the people who wait for his faithful love.

1 Corinthians 2:5-9 I did this so that your faith might not depend on the wisdom of people but on the power of God. What we say is wisdom to people who are mature. It isn't a wisdom that comes from the present day or from today's leaders who are being reduced to nothing. We talkw about God's wisdom, which has been hidden as a secret. God determined this wisdom in advance, before time began, for our glory. It is a wisdom that none of the present day rulers have understood, because if they did understand it, they never would have crucified the Lord of glory! But this is precisely what is written: God has prepared things for those who love him that no eye has seen, or ear has heard, or that haven't crossed the mind of any human being.

1 Kings 21:25-29 (Truly there has never been anyone like Ahab who sold out by doing evil in the Lord's eyes--evil that his wife Jezebel told him to do. Ahab's actions were deplorable. He followed after the worthless idols exactly like the Amorites had done--the very ones the Lord had removed before the Israelites.) When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes and put on mourning clothes, and walked around depressed. The Lord's word came to Elijah the Tishbe: Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has done so, I won't bring the evil during his lifetime. Instead, I will bring the evil on his household in the days of his son.

Matthew 3:9-12 ..."And don't even think about saying to yourselves, Abraham is our father. I tell you that God is able to raise up Abraham's children from these stones. The ax is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn't produce good fruit will be chopped down and tossed into the fire. I baptize with water those of you who have changed your hearts and lives. The one who is coming after me is stronger than I am. I'm not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire..."

COLLECTIONS FOR HAWAII WILDFIRE RELIEF

The Missions Committee is now collecting donations for the wildfires in Maui, Hawaii. The donations will be sent to UMCOR which is an agency of the United Methodist Church that works with disaster relief across the entire world.

Please make your checks out to Shawnee UMC or SUMC and write UMCOR in the memo section of your check. We will be collecting donations through September.
