Mayor and City Council Honor Local T-Shirt Entrepreneur
Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council presented a proclamation recognizing the week of Feb. 3rd through Feb. 10th as "Be Kind to Everyone Week" during their Work Session on Tuesday, Feb. 7th. Jordyn Moore and her mom, Jackie, accepted the proclamation. The Moore Family (which also includes dad Ben, son Hudson, and dog Max) began a local business called "Jordyn's Summer Shirt Project" in June of 2018 for the sole purpose of helping Jordyn, who is on the autism spectrum, develop work skills since opportunities for adults with disabilities are limited after they age out of school. Jordyn's Summer Shirt Project sought to sell 40 t-shirts with the simple but powerful message of "Be Kind to Everyone." However, the business was a huge hit and became vastly more successful than the family could have ever imagined. In 2022, the business relocated into a 5,500-square-foot warehouse here in Cumming, and "Be Kind to Everyone" shirts have now sold in all 50 states. Additionally, Jordyn, who now independently works on a wide variety of tasks at the business, has been featured by many news outlets including the Forsyth County News, 11 Alive, Fox 5 Atlanta, 94.9 The Bull, Love What Matters, and even CBS National News! The week of Feb. 3rd through 10th was chosen as "Be Kind to Everyone Week" in honor of Jordyn's birthday, Feb. 3rd; additionally, the 'Cumming Home' water tower at Exit 14 was also lit yellow (Jordyn's favorite color) on Feb. 3rd in honor of her 22nd birthday. Arbor Day 2023: Thank you!
The City of Cumming was delighted to again host the Annual Community Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, Feb. 17th. This year's event was presented at the Cumming City Center's Kiwanis kids' playground area. Thank you to our event partners and sponsors: Keep Forsyth County Beautiful, UGA Extension Services-Forsyth, UGA Extension Master Naturalists, the Georgia Forestry Commission, Lanier Forsyth Rotary Club, and Los Rios Mexican Restaurant! Despite very cold and windy conditions, we had a wonderful turnout at the event, which featured a tree planting demo, free tree saplings and other Arbor Day goodies to take home, sapling education, community art project, and special VIP guests: Smokey the Bear, Sparky the Fire Dog, and representatives of the Forsyth County Fire Department's Wild Fire Unit. Thank you to everyone who came out to support this fun community event!
Join Mayor Troy as a "Quacker Backer"
Mayor Troy Brumbalow is proud to again support the Forsyth County Schools' Duck Dive, which provides funding for the Education Foundation. Since 2016, the Forsyth County Education Foundation has provided more than $410,000 in grants for students and teachers. The annual Duck Dive provides an opportunity for the public to help support these teacher and student grants, while also having a chance to win $10,000! For $10, you can adopt a duck for the raffle. When you adopt your duck, you'll be assigned a duck number. The list of duck numbers will be available prior to the dive event (deadline to "adopt" ducks is March 24th) so you know your assigned duck number before the raffle drawing. All numbered ducks will be thrown into a "pond" (the Cumming Aquatic Center's outdoor pool). At the drawing, which will be held on March 31st at 1 p.m., one lucky duck will be drawn and the winner will win $10,000.  Click here for complete information on the Duck Dive and how you can adopt your ducks!
