ALUMNI NEWSLETTER

September 23, 2021

Dear Alumni and Friends,

As the school year has started, it has been simply wonderful to see the campus blanketed with smiling faces of students, faculty, and staff! All the beautiful aspects that accompany the opening of school: New and returning students and their parents being greeted by Mr. Man as they head into registration, community assemblies, sit-down meals, sports teams on the fields and the courts, thespians at work in the Jake Cloobeck Theater, and the optimistic energy of wonder and creativity permeating the campus. The presence of community and excellence established by John and Julia Forman almost a century ago is clearly alive and well. Forman continues to flourish as a leader in the world of education and serving young people in finding their passion and purpose in life and beyond. We could not be more proud of the School we are and continue to grow to be. Please feel free to reach out to us with updates, news, or to schedule a meet-up for an epic run or bike ride with our very own Scott McCarty ’76, P02, P05!

As the excitement grows with the start of the year, I am also excited and privileged to announce some new members of the Advancement and Alumni Team:

Duncan Marshall '67 - Director of Stewardship and Planned Giving

Duncan is an icon in the history of Forman from his days on campus as a schoolboy to serving Forman over the years in administrative positions from Advancement to Admissions. Duncan’s passion and care for Forman is a standard that we use as a benchmark in our community and we are lucky to have him home! We are eager to have Duncan serving in this new role and he eagerly looks forward to reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. Please feel free to reach out to Duncan to say hello, reconnect, or set up a time to get together at duncan.marshall@formanschool.org or 631.897.2555.

Heather brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and we are ecstatic to have her back at Forman! Please feel free to reach out to Heather at heather.ford@formanschool.org or 860.567.2847.

First Week of School

Screen Shot 2021-09-23 at 8.58.07 AM.png

Students had their first day of classes on Monday, September 13th. Head of School Adam K. Man P'15 addressed students, faculty, and staff at the first All-School Assembly of the year. Mr. Man discussed what it takes to thrive and flourish at Forman, including connection in our community, motivation, remembering your superpower, and pride in yourself and our community. “We put these four things in play,” he said. “The research will tell us you are going to have an absolutely amazing year, you’re going to have an incredibly successful year, you’re going to have the best year of your life…and that’s my goal.”

Forman welcomed 101 new students this year, bringing total enrollment to 192 boarding students and 49 day students. The student body now represents 31 states and nine countries.

The Advancement Corner

As Forman’s academic year gets off to a successful start, I am hopeful we will have a year full of alumni visits and events, both on and off campus. It is always so special to catch up with fellow alumni and hear about what is going on in their lives. Just recently, we had a very nice visit from Emre Erguder '20 and Kyle Hochenberger '19 (top photo L-R). They are both doing great and were happy to be back on campus. The week before that, a small group of us – Rebecca Valen Kintzley '94, Meredith McClean Fontaine '94, Scott Brady '84, Scott McCarty '76, P'02, P'05, and Allison Herron Gsell '95 (bottom photo L-R) – got together in town at the Marketplace restaurant, which some of us may remember as the old jailhouse. The evening was filled with Forman stories from decades past. My hope is to have many more Forman meetups throughout the year. So, my message to all of you alumni out there is if you are in the area or if you want to have a small get-together near you, please reach out to me!

Best,

Sean Maguire '89, P'22, P'23

Students Embark on New Adventures

Forman has launched a new initiative called Truth, Respect, and Kindness expedition (TReK). Each grade will go on a specific TReK, and in a student’s tenure at Forman, they will complete all TReKs. This past weekend, 9th graders participated in activities that encapsulate Forman’s core values and camped on the fields on campus, while the seniors camped off campus and went whitewater rafting and zip-lining. The sophomores and juniors will participate in their TReKs this weekend.
