Dear Normandale Families,

This past weekend we were bombarded with reminders to change our clocks over for winter. Apparently winter weather got the message too. Colder temps are expected to arrive this weekend.

With those colder temps, families will be digging out hats and mittens. Below are some reminders as you prepare your students for the winter season.

Common Expectations for Outerwear:

1. If it is below 40 degrees students should wear a jacket. (If they are hot, they can unzip their coat.)

2. Snowpants and boots are required when there is accumulated snow on the ground.

3. Boots worn outside cannot be the same boots worn inside. (Students should have separate footwear for inside versus outside)

4. Hats, mittens, etc. required below freezing (32 degrees).

Finally students will go outside for recess each day unless the temperature is below 0°F or the windchill is below -10°F. Please label your students hats, gloves, mittens, jacket and snowpants with their first and last name. Also, please send your students with their outerwear every day as conditions can change during the day and students will go outside if possible.

If you'll be in town for Thanksgiving, mark your calendars and join in for the second annual turkey day community building event and Normandale fundraiser. What better way to work up an appetite while also giving back to the school? The 1.1-mile event is family friendly, casual with no timed races, and turkey themed attire is encouraged!

All are welcome! Purchase tickets through the Community Connections section of OneCause.

MEET THE INTERN

FLORA FIESCHI - FIRST GRADE

ABOUT ME:  I’m from Puget-Ville, a small town in the Var (south eastern coast of France) and it’s 30 mins away from the beach! I have two sisters, Julia who’s 21 yo and Elisa who’s 18 yo. I’m very close to them! I have a dog, her name is Belle and she is kind. When I’m not at college, I live with my parents and my sisters. I enjoy everything that includes art like painting, drawing, poetry. I enjoy creating things and visiting art museums! Also, I really like to cook and learn new recipes. When I’m home, I like gardening with my mom. I listen to a lot of music, I read mangas and I love learning new things!

IN THE US: During my stay, I would love to learn more about the different cultures and history of the US!

I would like to visit many places and typical landscapes from the country (like New York for example). As I am a big fan of art museums, I hope I’ll have the opportunity to visit some of them. Sharing great moments with people and learning more about them is important to me. I’m pretty sure I’ll meet plenty of nice people!

MY FAVORITE FOOD: I love Asian, Polynesian food, French cheese. I also enjoy sweet things like pies, muffins, crêpes... I am crazy about pancakes with maple syrup!!

I AM EXCITED ABOUT: I am excited about discovering a new place and diverse cultures! I can’t wait to share mine at school, as well as with my host families! It will be a super experience as an intern to help students through their journey of learning French!
