As I sit down to write this newsletter, I imagine there will be some interesting thoughts on my title! Are you thinking this title means if I put myself first, I am putting others last? That I am selfish? Be honest with yourself, those thoughts did cross your mind…because they certainly cross mine!

Building a Future Thanks to Therapy

When Leslie first started coming to the Crisis Center for counseling, she was seeking support for the multiple sexual assaults she experienced as a teen. More and more, she found herself struggling with suicidal ideation and knew she needed additional help.

Providing Community Trainings

A Bridge of Mental Health Support

Earlier this year, the Crisis Center joined Tampa Bay Thrives to provide support for their Let’s Talk program. Community members in Tampa can dial 844-YOU-OKAY to be connected with behavioral health counseling resources through a network of providers. Callers can also receive interim support in the period of time before their first counseling appointment.

The Crisis Center’s role in this program is answering the 844-YOU-OKAY line, as well as providing bridge counseling services while individuals wait to get established with their permanent therapist. With the increasing need for mental health support as a result of the pandemic, this service will allow individuals to get some immediate support and coping mechanisms to better manage their mental health symptoms.
