Dear Emmaus Families,
We pray that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and took the time to be grateful and thank God for all the blessings He has given you.
As you may know, many of our K-8 teachers attended the Lutheran Educators Conference (LEC) last Sunday through Tuesday with over 1200 other educators from Lutheran schools in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii. It was a great time to connect with God and each other while also learning and reflecting on what it means to be educators in a Lutheran school.
I am SO pleased with how much our school brought in for our Operation Christmas Child service project. We were able to send 147 boxes–so amazing! I wish you could have seen the excitement on the faces of the people at First Baptist in Alhambra when we dropped them off. And then when I told them they were from our students–even bigger smiles. Thank you again so much for your giving hearts. Please check out the video below for an overview of the collecting and packing.
Now, we have just a few weeks until Christmas break and a lot going on! Please be sure to read through all of the information below.
But, please do not let the busy-ness of Christmas preparation steal away the hope and joy of the true meaning of Christmas–the birth of Jesus. In the church, we call this the season of Advent–which means “coming.” During Advent we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, who came into the world as both God and Man so that our sins might be forgiven. We also anticipate and prepare for the day Jesus will come back to Earth and give His believers eternal life in Heaven.
If you are looking for ways to help your family prepare their hearts for Christmas, please consider using these Advent Devotions. There are English, Chinese and Spanish translations. You are also welcome to join us for midweek Advent services and Sunday services.
Blessings as we SOAR into Advent and Christmas together,
Mrs. Spiva
