A Note About the Service on Sunday, September 26
The liturgy for Sunday, September 26, will be Service of the Word, without communion. Unfortunately, Pastor Walker has been exposed to an individual who tested positive for COVID and is now in quarantine. She will not be present to preside or preach on Sunday. Please hold Pastor Walker in your prayers during this difficult time.
Care for Creation News
Is it just a coincidence? During this month when we are promoting the reduction of energy in our homes, Governor Holcomb has issued a proclamation recognizing September 20-24, 2021, as Clean Energy Week. So two ideas to remember: 1. use clean energy 2. reduce the use of energy.
First Concert of the 2021-2022 Music at Christ Series
The first performance of the 2021–2022 Music at Christ series at Christ Lutheran Church, features a concert with piano and cello on Friday, October 1 at 7 p.m. Performing artists are Peter Douglas, piano, and Erik Lakanen, cello. Mr. Douglas is an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University East and organist for First Presbyterian Church, Muncie. Mr. Douglas is a doctoral candidate at Ball State University. Dr. Lakanen holds teaching positions at Butler University’s Community Arts School, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, and the University of Indianapolis. A reception will follow the concert.
New Communion Procedure
New Communion Procedure Beginning Sunday, October 3
When you come for worship on Sunday, please pick up either a wine or juice communion set. The sets will be located at the sanctuary entrance near the bulletins. We will commune in the pews.
Fellowship Time Suspended
Due to the rising number of COVID cases in Howard County, the Congregation Council, at its September 21 meeting, voted to discontinue holding fellowship time until further notice. Coffee and donuts will not be available before or after the service.

Music at Christ - 2021-2022 | Fifteenth Season
IT GIVES ME GREAT PLEASURE TO ANNOUNCE that Christ Lutheran Church will again sponsor Music at Christ, a Fine Arts Series for the 2021-2022 season. This year will mark our fifteenth season of concerts! We sponsor this series to enrich the cultural life of the community by featuring outstanding performers and compositions which would not otherwise be heard locally. We believe that the best of music, along with the other arts, is a vital expression of humanity’s aspiration toward the highest values, and an important channel through which the human spirit is fed.

We are pleased to offer a great variety of music in these concerts: music for piano, organ, violin, cello, flute, and bassoon. We will offer four Advent Recitals and five Lenten Recitals this season. We invite you to our first concert of the season on Friday, October 1. Please join us!

In order to offer Music at Christ, we need the financial support of many interested persons, as these expenses are not covered by our regular church budget. We will be most grateful if you can make a donation, using the form located in this brochure.

Please mark your check with Fine Arts Series Fund on the memo line. In the programs, we will list the series donation levels: Angels ($1,000 and up), Benefactors ($500–$999), Patrons ($100–$499), Sustaining Contributors ($50–$99), and Donors ($25–$49). Smaller donations are, of course, welcome. All gifts are tax-deductible. In this way, you can also cast your ballot in favor of our holding similar series in future years.

Announcements relating to weather emergencies or unexpected cancellations will be posted on the church’s website: www.christlutherankokomo.org. We regret that we are unable to contact our benefactors on an individual basis when such changes occur.

Whether or not you can give, we hope to see you at many of the concerts!

Please click the purple-colored button below to view and/or print the concert brochure.

Blessings,
Thomas Dearchs

Appointments with Pastor Walker
Pastor Walker is in the office at CLC on Wednesdays, by appointment. Please contact Tom Dearchs to schedule a meeting. Please note that Pastor Walker does visitations, hospital visits, and Zoom meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Friday is dedicated primarily to Shiloh Lutheran, to whom we are in shared ministry. Her scheduled day off is Monday. Unless it is an emergency, she will not respond to emails or texts until Tuesday.
Christ's Cupboard
Christ's Cupboard is looking quite bare as it awaits our filling the shelves once again. Grateful Samaritan Love pantry folks loaded approximately 430 pounds of goods from our pantry
to theirs. They have been experiencing greater numbers of families coming to their pantry. As we begin to rebuild our shelves we can start with the most needed items which
include canned pasta, pasta/sauce, soup, peanut butter, cereal, soaps and Toilet Tissue.

Care for Creation Team (alias "Energy Stewards")
Do you want to see how many members of our congregation are “going green” by reducing their use of energy in their homes? We’ve prepared a special slide presentation to be shown at 10:45 a.m. before the church service during the whole month of September. Come early and watch. You might see someone you know on the big screen. Yes, these slides show ways we can go green at home, but we must also go green in our church building. In the future, our Energy Stewards team will report to you the ways it is working to eliminate energy waste at church and the ways we all can help the team and thus reduce pollution in the environment.

This slide presentation is part of our September Season of Creation. The church services will reflect the importance we put on all of creation where all God’s creatures and our fellow humans are equal and valued.
--Lenore Kane

Be sure and arrive early on Sunday, September 5. The special slide presentation will begin at 10:45 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

The Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration of prayer and action for our common home. Together, the ecumenical family around the world unites to pray and protect God's creation.

The season starts 1 September, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends 4 October, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations.
Church Rummage Sale
With the fall weekends filling up, we've decided to postpone a sale until early spring. Please tell me if you will be interested so we can make plans together.

Who's Going Green?
Who’s going green? Christ Lutheran! Yes, our Council voted to join the program Energy Stewards that will help us reduce our energy use – in our homes and in our church. The goal is a 25% reduction at church in 3 years. Can we do it? We’re going to try. Everybody can take part in the program. First, we’ll prove that we already know how to save. Each of you will be asked how you were taught as a kid to save energy, not waste it. Or how, in the last few years, you’ve already saved energy in your home. So expect this question at church or on a phone call. Then your thoughts and pictures will be put in a form for all to see that we’re already on a “green path.”
Masks
The Congregation Council, at its May 18, 2021, meeting, determined that the wearing of masks is now optional and that everyone's personal choice be respected. However, we do ask that the unvaccinated continue to wear a mask and practice social distancing. **Please wear a mask when singing.
