CEO Corner
Happy February!

This month, we celebrated Black History Month by inviting David Femi from M&T Bank to serve as keynote for our CEO Speakers Series. His presentation was very informative and interesting. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.

Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. I liked what President Biden stated in this year's White House Black History Month Proclamation:" We are using every avenue to confront racial discrimination in housing and in mortgage lending and to help build generational wealth in Black communities. We are working to ensure that any housing agency that receives Federal funds will reach beyond the simple promise not to discriminate and will instead take meaningful, affirmative steps to overcome historic patterns of segregation, giving every person a fair chance to live where they choose. We are addressing the negative impacts of redlining and other forms of financial discrimination. And we are working to end a discriminatory system of appraisals that assigns lesser values to Black-owned family homes than to similar homes owned by white families."

Next month, we will celebrate Women's History Month with Lorena Barreto from Newtown Savings Bank as our keynote speaker. We value diversity at Habitat CFC! We will continue to celebrate with various cultures. Thank you for celebrating with us!

At Habitat CFC, we put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Thank you for continuing the journey with us!

With Gratitude,

“Working at Habitat CFC is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had, knowing that I am part of this organization that
provides affordable homes for those that otherwise could not afford one, will actually be able to fulfill their dream of homeownership. I can definitely attest to this because I became a Habitat CFC homeowner before working here."

"Honestly, I've learned so much about myself just from coming to these Women Builds. I've gotten to meet other women, I've been inspired, I've become stronger, smarter - just a better person overall by giving back to my community and building relationships with other women."
