Veterans' Memorial is
Eagle Scout Project of the Year!

Eagle Scout Blake of Troop 312 has been selected for The Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award.

For his project, Blake designed and led others in the construction of a Veterans' Memorial at Ashland Park in Columbia, which consists of a pentagon-shaped concrete base with flagpoles and flags for each branch of United States military service. It also includes a marker in tribute to our military veterans and a beautification project in the area.

Blake will be presented with the award by the council's National Eagle Scout Association at the Council Recognition Reception which will take place on Sunday, April 16th, 3:30 p.m. at the Sumter American Legion #15.

Everyone in our Scouting family is invited to join together in celebration and recognition of our incredible Scouting volunteers and Scouts at a reception in Sumter on April 16th! This event will include refreshments followed by an exciting program, awards presentations and Court of Honor.

The event cost is $10 per person (free for 2022 Eagle Scouts and Silver Beaver honorees and guest). Eagle Scouts sponsorships are available for $30.

We will honor the council's 269 members of the Jimmy Duffy Eagle Scout Class of 2022. A host of Scouting volunteers will also be recognized with awards ranging from areas of wilderness conservation to religious activities.

Highlights will include presentation of the Silver Beaver Award to Daniel Altis, Robbie Johnson, and Ernest Nimmons; the 2022 Outstanding Eagle Scout Award to JD Chaplin, George Faller, Vince Van Brunt, David Warner, and Robbie Wiggs; and the BSA Alumnus of the Year Award to Chris McDuffie.

After a highly successful annual meeting and winter banquet for the newest Order of the Arrow Lodge in the nation, we are now are so excited to welcome new OA members to the Spring Induction Weekend of the Muscogee Lodge #116.

Newly elected Order of the Arrow candidates can take great pride in being chosen for Order of the Arrow membership. Their next step is to participate in this Induction Weekend on March 10-12, 2023 at Camp Barstow.

Volunteers Encouraged to Take
Range Safety Officer Training

March 11 &12, Camp Barstow

Interested Scouters are encouraged to become certified in "RSO" training so their Scouts can better participate in BSA Shooting Sports programs. The council is offering a discounted full NRA course, with RSO credential upon successful completion, along with a small biannual NRA registration/re-registration fee. NRA membership is not required, nor is firearms experience necessary.

At the end of this month, the council will conduct a Climbing and COPE training course designed to train volunteers in the basics of operating our climbing towers and COPE courses at Camp Coker and Camp Barstow. The weekend course will focus on skills like knots, belaying, rescuing, and climbing.

Shooting Sports Weekend
is Back at Barstow

The purpose of this weekend is to have fun, expose those, experienced or not, to the enjoyment of shooting sports and most importantly, encourage the safe use and handling of firearms and archery equipment.

BALOO - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation for Cub Scout leaders is a training event that introduces participants to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a pack campout, and it is required that at least one adult per pack complete BALOO training.

Cub Scout Summer Adventure Camp
July 14-16, 2023
Camp Barstow

Cub Scout Adventure Camp is a fun 3-day experience for Cub Scouts along with their leaders and/or parents. While immersed in adventures, Cub Scouts take part in activities such as archery, slingshots, BB guns, nature hikes, games and crafts, swimming, and boating. Webelos and AOL's can earn activity pins, and Wolf and Bear Cubs can also earn advancements.

Patch Design Contest Commences

Our Zombie Ops Council Camporee will be October 20-21, 2023 and the them will be, "Vikings." Scouts now have the chance to design the event patch (one for campers and one for staff) and one of them will also patches will also be featured as the tee-shirt design.

Winning designs will only be announced at the opening of the Zombie Ops Camporee and the winners will receive an extra patch for each member of their unit in attendance. The deadline for entries is International Viking Day (May 8, 2023)!

Patch designs must include: a fleur-de-lis, IWC or Indian Waters Council, 2023, and a Viking Symbol. Up to ten colors can be used and the patch size will be be 3" - 4".

The Indian Waters Council serves thousands of Scouting families in 19 South Carolina counties: Bamberg, Calhoun, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Fairfield, Florence, Horry, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Marlboro, Marion, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Sumter, and Williamsburg.
