New R34 and R21 Awarded to DC CFAR Investigator Dr. Rachel Scott

Please join us in congratulating DC CFAR Women and HIV Scientific Interest Group (SIG) co-lead Dr. Rachel Scott (GU) who was recently awarded two new National Institutes of Health (NIH) awards. The first is an R34 from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) entitled " Socio-Structural Intervention to Improve Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Services for Cisgender Women (CGW) (PrEP-CGW)". This study builds from the Project Shikamana led by DC CFAR SBS Core Sr. Scientist Dr. Deanna Kerrigan (GW) and plans to adapt the approach to "address the culturally-specific, socio-structural barriers to HIV prevention specific to US Black, reproductive-age Cisgender Women". The second is an R21 from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) entitled "Optimization of HIV Prevention in Pregnancy and Postpartum: Population Pharmacokinetic Modeling and Clinical Trial Simulation". This study aims to use population pharmacokinetic modeling and clinical trial simulation to evaluate the dosing of both F/TDF and F/TAF for PrEP in pregnancy.

The title of his seminar is “Multiplexing Neurochemical Detection with Carbon Fiber Multielectrode Arrays." Dr. Zestos is a DC CFAR Spring 2021 Pilot Award Recipient.

DC CFAR Investigators Awarded NIH CFAR Administrative Supplements
|
Please join us in congratulating the following DC CFAR Investigators on the receipt of five NIH CFAR Administrative Supplements! The first three supplements were in support of the National Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative. These initiatives are led by Dr. Lisa Bowleg (GW) on "Addressing Intersectional and Social-Structural Barriers to Ending the HIV Epidemic in Black Sexual Minority Men and Black Heterosexual Women", Dr. Marjorie Gondré-Lewis (HU) on "Implementing Brain Health Assessment into the HIV Care Continuum in Washington DC" and Dr. Carlos Rodríguez-Díaz on "An intersectionality-based policy analysis of social determinants of HIV in Puerto Rico". The fourth supplement was awarded to Dr. Anne Monroe (GW) on "Improving Potentially Inappropriate Prescribing (PIP) for Aging People with HIV: An Individualized Approach to be Scaled City-Wide". The fifth supplement focused on the request for equipment was awarded to Dr. Natalia Soriano-Sarabia (GW) entitled "Automated Cell Isolation using the RoboSepTM System and Muse Cell Analyzer for HIV Cure Studies".

FUNDING, TRAINING AND MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES

The International AIDS Society (IAS) is accepting applications for the 2021 Research-for-Cure Academy and 2021 Advocacy-for-Cure Academy. The sister academies are designed for people working in HIV resource-constrained settings who are interested in engaging in HIV cure.
The Emory CFAR is accepting applications for the NIH R-level Grant Writing Fellowship program. This nine-month fellowship is designed to help investigators write and successfully compete for an HIV-related NIH R-level grant (e.g. R01) in clinical, social/behavioral, virological, and/or immunological research. Applications are due October 18.
The Brown University Community and Clinical Research Training (CCRT) Program is accepting applications, the objective of this program is to train the next generation of researchers to end the HIV epidemic and to conduct research related to reducing racial disparities in HIV outcomes. Applications are due October 1.
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Substance Use and
Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and
Quality (CBHSQ) is an epidemiologist responsible for carrying out a full range of complex epidemiologic and surveillance activities for CBHSQ.
The Hopelab is a social innovation lab committed to supporting and improving the health and happiness of young people through the co-creation and distribution of behavior-change tech. The Head of Research supports Hopelab’s mission by serving as an expert in mental health, well-being, and positive development of adolescents and emerging adults.
The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and the National LGBTQ Institute on IPV in partnership with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the Research Consortium on Gender-Based Violence is hosting a four-part institute for gender-based violence practitioners and researchers who engage in community-based participatory research to learn new methods, share skills, and create meaningful collaborations.
NIH is requesting information from stakeholders on the utility and useability of sample language developed for use in informed consent documents for data and biospecimen sharing. Response to this Notice is voluntary. The deadline for responses is September 29, 2021.
