A Message from Ms. Sue Heidel '85
K-12 Principal
As educators in the Ursuline Education Network, we find inspiration from several Italian words repeated frequently by our foundress, Saint Angela Merici: piacevolezza, which translates to gentleness; insieme, which translates to togetherness; fati vita nova, which translates to lead a new life. Indeed, to live a new life, to take risks and try something different, is a mark of an Ursuline education.
The marvelous weather lately has us connecting to another Italian word and concept loved by St. Angela -- the piazza. St. Angela used the specific phrase Siate piazzevole, which translates to “be kind, be gracious, be like a piazza.” In Angela’s time, the piazza served as an informal meeting place--a place to take a deep breath of fresh air, a place to catch up with friends, people watch, a place to laugh out loud and relax.
Our beautiful campus has its very own piazza, our Courtyard, which is the center of our campus. Life is never dull in our Courtyard. It is our special place. Your daughters, teachers and staff enjoy this space to celebrate the ordinary and the extraordinary. What a gift!
We invite you to join us in the Courtyard next weekend for La Fete and celebrate our partnership with you in raising the compassionate “like a piazza” leaders needed for the future.
