Message from the Principal
Dear DHS staff, students, and families,

First and foremost, my best wishes to our students as they prepare for their summative assessments next week.

Second, this is just a reminder about the steps we can take to protect ourselves and others to reduce transmission of COVID-19: wear a mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance. We are especially appreciative of our students and staff who have been modeling these behaviors this semester.

It is vitally important you stay home when sick. If you have any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19, please stay home no matter your vaccination status and get a COVID-19 test. SHIELD testing is available to all students and staff regardless of vaccination status. Please see our SHIELD website for more information regarding locations, times, and consent that is needed.

There have been some questions about the need to quarantine/isolate when fully vaccinated. Per IDPH & ISBE guidance, fully vaccinated people who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate. Following an exposure, fully vaccinated people with COVID-like symptoms should isolate, while fully vaccinated people with no COVID-19-like symptoms do not need to quarantine or be excluded from school, extracurricular events, or other events organized by the school if they were exposed to a confirmed or probable case. (This includes family members). With that said, following an exposure, fully vaccinated students who participate in extracurriculars that require maskless components (examples: Wrestling/Gymnastics/Swimming) may not participate maskless until a negative COVID-19 test on days 5-7. Please see IDPH guidance, IDPH & ISBE FAQCOVID- Exclusion Decision Tree, and IDPH Holiday Season Guidance for the most current guidance.

Finally, as students, families, and staff navigate the challenges of COVID-19, let us treat one another with kindness and compassion. We can do our part to reduce transmission and also support those impacted. Stay safe and be well as we get closer to Winter Break!

Sincerely,
Principal Kathryn Anderson

  • How important are my test scores? How do I measure up?
  • What is the most effective calendar for testing and test preparation?
  • What are implications of ‘test optional’ policies? Should I submit my scores?
  • How do I compare scores and choose between the SAT and ACT?
  • How do effective timing strategies vary by test and subject?
  • How strong are my PSAT scores? Will I make National Merit?
  • Am I eligible for an extended-time accommodation?
  • How have AP exams and scores changed?
