1 November 2021 | CV Cyber Academy

Dear CV Cyber Academy Families,

Welcome to November! This year is just flying by and it is hard to believe that before we know it, it will be 2022! Today and tomorrow are no school days for Chartiers Valley students. This applies to our CV Cyber Academy also. Please note that when you log in to Waterfront Learning, it will show assignments for today and tomorrow. You may disregard those due dates and continue your progress on Wednesday. Waterfront Learning can only "blackout" dates that are common across the county. Students will not be penalized for not submitting assignments by the November 1 and 2 due dates. If you wish, families may still log in to complete assignments though, or to get a jump start on this week's assignments.

As we continue into the second nine weeks, I wanted to share a few more reminders with you:
  • Students may work ahead. If you finish an assignment before the assigned due date, it is highly recommended to submit it as soon as it is completed so as not forgotten on the due date.
  • For Middle School and High School students, the Edgenuity platform does allow for eNotes (electronic notes). This is a great resource for students to track their thoughts and learning in their own notebooks.
  • If a student receives a low score on an assignment, reach out to the teacher. Students are able to retake low-scoring tests, quizzes, etc.
  • Please be aware that all essay responses are analyzed by a computer program for plagarism. Please review with your child what plagarism is.
  • Attendance is required daily Monday-Friday. Attendance includes both logging into the system and completing an appropriate amount of work. If a student is sick and unable to complete coursework, please email mhubert@cvsd.net for an excused absence. Families are permitted 10 excused absences per school year.
  • Each course has suggested pacing. Even though this is a guide, students are strongly encouraged to remain on pace to ensure a smooth learning environment. To remain on pace, the average amount of time per core course is approximately 45 minutes per day.
  • Parents and guardians are able to have their own guardian account. If you need to create a parent/guardian account, please review the how-to documented in the Parent/Student Waterfront Learning Handbook by clicking here.
  • Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to reach out to the classroom teacher for course assistance. If you have questions outside of course content or need additional assistance, please reach out to me at any time via email or phone.

Tech Tip of the Week: Google Chromebooks have a variety of Accessibility features. Please click this link to see How-To Videos created by Google if interested.

Almost all grades have been entered into Infinite Campus for families to see, as well as in Genius. Please review your student's progress for the first nine weeks and remember that progress can be monitored at any time throughout the nine weeks with your Genius parent/guardian account.

Below are the building-specific updates. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Your Input is Needed
The Chartiers Valley School District is proud of its rigorous curricular programming and activities. The CV Curriculum Council, which is made up of administration, curriculum leaders, and department heads, works collaboratively to ensure that all academic programming is relevant to student needs, and aligned to the expectations set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

This year, the Curriculum Council is conducting a needs assessment of the Science, Music, and Physical Education/Health curriculums to evaluate current academic programming and determine strengths and areas of development.

This process includes surveying teachers, students, and parents. Please take a moment to answer a brief parent/guardian survey regarding your child's experiences with the Science, Music, and PE/Health curriculum. Click here to take the survey.
