YOUTH ENJOYED FOREST HOME
On the weekend of July 23-25, we were able to take 98 campers up the mountain to have an encounter with Jesus. This was our first retreat of 2021, and our first time at our new location, Forest Home, a premier Christian Camp in Southern California.

The weekend was filled with workshops, worship, and the Word of God. The youth were able to enjoy God’s creation on a hike or cool down by swimming in the lake, kayaking, or just going down the slide. For the bravest, the zip line and giant swing were awesome.
Brother Armando Alcala shared his powerful testimony of growing up in church, but then walking away from God. He told how God allowed him to fall 40 feet, be hospitalized for 2 months, and still survive. God truly used him and touched the hearts of our youth. Many students recommitted their lives to Jesus.

Thank you to our speaker, Pastor Oswaldo Sanchez, who said, “God is faithful, and if you want to have a good life, if you want to have a truly blessed life, stay close to God.”
Thank you to all of our workshop leaders: Daniel Hernandez, Alexys Razana, Areli Pineda, Armando Alcala, Najma London and Pastor Devon London.

A big SHOUT OUT goes to Dourly Galvez and her great team for their hard work planning and leading the retreat under the guidance of Dr. Emilio A. Núñez of Pacific Church Network.

TRAGIC NEWS, PRAYER NEEDED
While driving home to Southern California from Colorado on July 24 from a full week of ministry, debriefing WorldVenture missionaries and their children on home assignment in the U.S., we received excruciating notification that our 41-year-old beloved son, Nathan, had been hit and killed by a car that very morning.

I am sending notification to Pacific Church Network because our whole family covets your prayers. I served as WorldVenture's SW Regional Director from 1995-2004, assisting several church families in global mission ventures during those amazing nine years.

We are now re-sustained by our Heavenly Father's love in the midst of our family's grief, pain, and loss. The gospel of Jesus Christ is fully trustworthy and fills us with abiding and abundant hope. We are also experiencing a superlative overflow of compassion from the family of God...locally and globally.

Thank you for praying for our family at this time.

We've recently moved from our home of twenty-five years in Walnut. This is our current "temporary" mailing address:

REMEMBERING GLEN MARTIN

Dr. Glen Martin, the former Senior Pastor of Journey of Faith, went home to be with Jesus on July 8, 2021. For 23 years Glen faithfully served Journey of Faith in Manhattan Beach as a gifted Bible teacher, leader, and author. He saw our congregation through an amazing season of growth and outreach.

His first sermon at Journey, previously Community Baptist Church, was on Easter Sunday, 1991. He retired in February 2014 and moved to Murrieta, CA with his wife Nancy, where he was able to rest and spend time with his family after decades of ministry.

Glen loved teaching the Bible, especially to people that didn’t know the love and grace of Jesus. Even in his final days, Glen was bringing comfort to friends and family by sharing these precious words from 2 Timothy: “…the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:6-8

Glen liked to use the term “graduation” when referring to followers of Jesus that had passed from this life to the next. We know he has now “graduated” to Heaven and believe that he felt a great sense of closeness with God in his final days having completed his mission here on earth.

We thank God for the tremendous impact Pastor Glen had on Journey of Faith, our community and the Kingdom. Please join us in praying for the peace and comfort of Jesus to be upon his family, and all who loved and knew him.

Glen will be remembered in a private family ceremony. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, a gift be made to your local church.
