Celebration: Dia de la Raza
(Indigenous Peoples’ Day - Mexico)
|
|
For the fourth consecutive year, The Palapa School, distinguished as a multicultural institution, joined the commemoration of Dia de la Raza. The Palapa School Director Anna Castillo explained, "School offers an opportunity to "encounter" others, build an inclusive society, and develop appreciation for differences and values."

This event promotes the connection of our students with the diversity and richness of our continent, allows them to develop planning, coordination and teamwork skills, and practice their verbal expression, body language and communication with large audiences.
We are honored to congratulate the winning teams!

Results of Language and Math Exams
|
|
Last September, diagnostic assessments were successfully administered to verify academic progress of our new students. The goal was to then design the best work strategies according to the educational level in the areas of Spanish and mathematics. The exams were offered in 2 modalities: Face-to-face and Online.
The results of the math diagnostic for the 1st-year students revealed a significant educational lag primarily attributed to the pandemic. These student assessments provided teachers with critical information and led to early interventions. Intervention classes are offered to accelerate students with low scores and quickly bring them back up to grade level.

Halloween at The Palapa School

Prepare for a good ol '
scary time!
On October 27th and 28th, the English class was transformed into a chillingly fun space where students and teachers were disguised as monsters, anime characters, animals, pirates, and more. They practiced teamwork, perseverance, and incorporated art in an English setting. The class began with the presentation of each student and their outfits. They continued with the team game of "Ghoulish-Recall" where students analyzed images presented and answered five questions testing their recall and attention to detail. Finally, it was the turn for the “Exquisite Corpse” activity where the entire group collectively drew fascinating monsters. Of course, the class was full of laughter, learning, and lots of sweets.

We are excited to announce the Puente Program (Bridge to English) will return to in-person classes on November 4. Due to COVID restrictions, we will limit class sizes. We only accept returning students. We hope things will change soon and we can open up more spaces. We look forward to a school year full of fun learning.

“Education is very important to me. I realize that access to quality education isn’t easy for many students in Mexico. For the last few years, it has been my pleasure to sponsor one student at The Palapa School by giving an easy monthly donation.
It brings me great satisfaction to know I am contributing to a student’s education and making a life-changing impact on his or her life. I thank the founders of this project, my friends Cindy and David Higgins, for having this unique vision and making it happen. I am honored to a be part of such an amazing enterprise.”
